Getting Closer... (quasi build thread)

So I got some things done today. I feel like I'm finally getting closer to where I want to be with the runner. Still a TON of things I want to do but it has come a long way in a year. I never remember to take pictures but today being as epic (not really, but to me) as it was reminded me to do so... I guess?

Like many people I love the plate bumpers made for our rides. Prob shrockworks has been my favorite but OL and others are really sweet too. Anyways some how I stumbled upon a local offroad fab (among other things) guy named Doc who owns Stone Soup Metal Works here in the valley. He has done a lot of work for Jeep guys and has a crazy thread on a Jeep forum with lots of his work posted and it's pretty impressive. Needless to say we met and said he can do what I want just give him a couple days with my ride to fab it up. Sweet! Picked it up the other day and I love it!

So I let that sit for a day to be nice and dried through and began the painting the next day.

Few coats throughout the day and then it dried good enough so we mounted her up:

I really like the final product. Kinda nerve racking when ya write a check to have one built not really knowing how it will turn out but I'm glad I did now.

Thanks man. Yeah it was interesting seeing how it is welded and whatnot. Wish I had a better camera. Was using my phone. In the day it does okay but at night it's pretty lame. Galaxy Nexus, my biggest complaint!

Don't take this wrong. Please tell me that it's not just bolted to the two factory mounting plates on the ends of the frame! The stock bumper is attached to accept impacts. If you winch or pull on the recovery points, you will pull the bumper right off, frame mounts and all.

Thanks, yeah I really like the way it turned out. Turn signals are led's and now my blinker noise in car is all crazy tho haha. Guess you need some resistor or something?

Yeah I'm no welding expert but it sure seems clean looking. Normally he would have charged about 1000 at his shop but he is currently working out of his house and doesn't have the overhead so he cut me a great deal. $630 (30 for the turns).

Well this is concerning! Why would I take it wrong? I appreciate your concern and will look into this more. This guy knows a $hit load about fab work tho. Definitely over qualified to make bumpers however this is his first runner so maybe we need to add additional mounting to be stronger?? BTW check out his stuff here: Stone Soup Metal Works

haha yeah I was a little afraid it was gonna be too beefy but once I painted it I think the black gave it a slimmed down look. And Thanks!

I got all in to the install and forgot to take any pics but I'm sure there are plenty from others on here. We did make cool little brackets to hold the ballasts that I will snap a pic of. Strange that they are so cheap... probably wont last that long. Seems like people were big on them on the forum few years back but now not so much??

Also snipped the turn lights off and wired the led's up for new bumper.

Like I said before the blinker is going crazy now but it still flashes normal so I was like..

Yesterday we were out all day taking the loop trail to Montana Mountain. Was tons of fun.. the weather was perfect and it wasn't very busy. It's not a difficult trail by any means so I basically just have a bunch of poser shots.
