Getting new tires - white raised letters in or out

my take. Black out / white in. Man when I detail my GF tacoma that has BFGs white out the white letters get all smugged black. Now with time and patience that isnt a problem. But I have little of either. For my 4runner I say white in. But her tacoma looks good with white out.

with that tire, black out... i dont like the white out on any brand of tire besides BFGoodrich, sorry just my opinion... I currently have the white out on my BFG Mud Terrains and while they do get dirty, a bottle of that bleach stuff does the trick REALLY quick, as in, spray it on when i park at the car wash... go get change, come back, use the brush and they are very white... i might go clean my truck and take a picture.
and i wheel the truck hard, been to tellico and scraped them all over rocks, they might not be perfect, but they look good enough to stay that way for me

white out looks good on the goodyear mtrs too.. they are white currently on my 285s because thats how they were mounted. as soon as these tires go im headin straight for some 305/70/16 firestone desitnations
I vote black out especially with 17 inch wheels

For me it depend on the Tire/Wheel combo and the vehicle itself. For the 3rd Gen though I think I'll vote for the Black out.
One nice trick if you can pull it off and if the salesperson will let you (He/She might laugh) take two of the tires your thinking about buying out to your truck in the parking lot and set them tread down in front of your tires you have now. Step back and look at both versions. Again they may laugh but if they want the buisness they should allow it. I think at this point one version vs another will win out with you.
Lots of good tips above. As someone said above for the "White out", the Tire Bleach works well. Another thing that really works is an "SOS" pad. You can get a huge box at most discount stores for cheap. Just rinse wheel/tire, use SOS pad on white and leave soap on for few minutes then rince again. You can use the same pad many times over until it won't soap any longer. Then just get another. Big box of these will last a long time.

purple power... when I sold my goodyear 265/75/16s to a guy here in Columbia that got the crap off the white letters in 5 minutes on each tire.. they were so white I could think they were new

Had a set of AT's on my previous "chevy pickup...notice lower case please no flaming"
They were hard as nails which was good but also resulted in them being not so good in the rain. They Rocked in the snow though.
Those MT's look sweet and BTW I love the adjusted dirt work!

The white wall out reminds me of Nascar racing. I've ran them out before with bfg's on my p/u and gave the truck a "sporty" look. I prefer the black now though.
