getting tires soon and want some advice

Just picked up a set of matching stock 15" wheels and now I am ready to throw some tires on.

I live in AZ so we have it all...rocks, sand, and (during the monsoon) mud. I am not a 4x4 enthusiast by any means, I just use my runner to get me in and out of areas that I want to fish.

After doing a quick search I thought about picking up some BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO (On-/Off-Road All-Terrain) as they seem to be pretty good all-purpose tires. Any other suggestions on tires or what is the best size to get for the stock wheels? Thanks!

Those are excellent tires for all-around use, both on the road and off. Something around a 31x10.5x15 should work well on those wheels.
 
Look through my build thread and some of my off wheeling videos. I have been running BFG AT 31x10.5x15 for about a year now. They have not disappointed me, EVER!
 
BFG ATs will last forever - a guy I work with has 75,000 on the set on his '85, and they've got tread left. The tread design is a little dated, though, and from what I've seen they struggle next to to newer tires in mud or sand.

I've been running Big-O Bigfoot ATs that have been great for me in pretty much the same terrain you're in. The only suggestion I'd make is to get load-rated, because the sidewalls are kinda wimpy on my P tires. The unconditional warranty is nice, though.

Also look at Goodyear Wranglers and Duratracs, Grabber AT2, Geolander AT-S, and Nitto Terra Grappler, all good solid AT tires. At the end of the day, all will give you good service. Check out the reviews and ratings at Tirerack.com.

For backroads and mild trails, 31s are the biggest I'd go. I wheel my '00 Explorer into some pretty hairy places wearing 235/75r15 all-seasons, so whatever you pick, you'll be fine.
 
Bfg ats are good as long as ya don't go bigger then a 31 ... my step da had some 33s and the steel belts busted and created bubles in his tires .. same thing happened to me when I had em in 35 .. my gf has 31 and I know a few ppl with stock sizes that have no problem ... moral to this. Stay below 31s or don't use bfg ats

sounds like isolated incidents to me, having personally ran BFG T/A KO in both 33 and 35" flavors respectively with no incidents. Also 33" or similar size metric tires are among the most common and popular size among full size pic ups that are lifted or leveled. You very rarely hear of that kind of tire failure with any BFG product.

I am in total agreement with this assessment--BFG didn't get the outstanding reputation they have with tires that constantly fail over 31". Definitely isolated incidents, which are possible with ANYTHING.

I really like my E rated Duratrac's. I live in Michigan and they really grip in all environments (rain, snow, mud, etc...). Amazingly quiet for such an aggressive tread design.
 
OK I know I should know this but when I went to my Tire size calculator they don't have the sizes you guys are talking about.

I understand how the "normal" numbering system works for the 235 75 15's but how would they compare size and performance wise to the 31 10.5 15's suggested in this thread? What about 30 9.5 15s?

Use this: Metric Tire Conversion Calculator - input metric and convert to LT, or input LT and convert to metric.

I had a set of those on my last Runner, and they worked great! Yes, they're from Walmart, but they're also from Goodyear, Kid, so I'll take a chance on that. I sold the truck with 'em on it, so I don't know the longevity factor, or how they do in heavy rain (drought time again).

Maybe so, but they're made so Walmart can sell them at a Walmart price, and Walmart doesn't get their prices low by going the extra mile, you know?

I'm sure they're DOT inspected and all that, and probably perfectly safe. I'd be more worried about things like sidewall durability and tread life.
 
I run Nexen tires. They are cheap tires but they have never let me down. The treadwear on them is awesome and they do great off road as well.

OK OK OK. After much debating I finally broke down and spent the xtra $ on the 31's and I am glad I did! Thanks to all for your input!
