Gibson 18707 Exhaust, can I make it more quiet?

I guess I'm not a big fan of loud exhausts. I replaced my rusty OEM with the Gibson cat back and my family is not a big fan. Between this, mud tires, 11 year old 4runner it is a bit too loud. Anyone have any suggestions? Just change the muffler with a more quiet universal?

if you have the stock exhaust still you could have the resonator welded in to the piping

As wnelax04sr5, you could weld your old resonator on to the Gibson pipe, assuming that you still have it. Otherwise, you will have to consider purchasing a different brand exhaust. Gibson's is louder because it is a "performance" oriented exhaust. Oh, and tell your Runner to just SHUT UP!

The Gibson is pretty darn quiet on my ride....guess you aren't familiar with performance exhausts. Wish mine was louder.

Resonator found the curb. I'm not a huge fan of loud exhausts. Sure it great sometimes but it is annoying sometimes, ie long car rides with the family.

The gibson is SUPER quiet from inside the cabin, no drone at all. Only throaty when you're on it. Take a video of yours, maybe it's louder than mine?

Ya I'm confused too. I have the Gibson and I think it's quiet, drone free, and the sound I hear is pleasant and soothing going down the road. It still makes me grin when I get on it knowing that it has a nice deep growl outside. The only thing I can say for you is that you need to cut it out and weld a stock muffler in. If this one bothers you then you'll never find one you like. It is the most mellow, has a nice growl and isn't raspy, and any other aftermarket muffler is going to drone, be to loud and just make you unhappy.

Yeah, I too have the Gibson and it is quiet compared to others I have heard. Too bad you are too far away, as I still have my stock non-rusted Catback in my garage.

Hmm, maybe I'll climb under there and check over my installation. Maybe I didn't get a good seal at the cat or something is loose. I know others have posted videos of their interior sounds, so I'll check those out.

As others have said, I think the Gibson system is pretty tame compared to other performance exhausts. I think the way my truck sounds is the way it should have sounded from the factory.

The catback is only slightly louder than stock under normal driving conditions and only noticeably louder when giving it more than 50% throttle.

I have tightened up where the catback bolts up twice as it was leaking slightly there. May be the issue. Also, I haven't had the issue but I have heard of others having a problem getting the clamps to tighten the two sections of pipe together. In that case you need to buy band clamps and ditch those pinch ones. Start it up, crawl around under there and put your hands on any joints. I would recommend doing that after it is cold so you don't burn your hand.
