This is really good information Jason. I had ordered my exhaust from another vendor last week, and after reading this comment on rust, was getting a little concerned. Actually was asking if it was shipped yet, cause I was going to just switch it to a different system. Good to know there's an email and contact to reach out to should any issues arise.

First let me say that I didn’t come here to bash this product. This is a good sounding exhaust and the dual tips look pretty good. What I didn’t like was how quick the stainless exhaust tips started to show signs of rust. I live in a climate where they use salt on the roads, that definitely didn’t help. I ended up taking the exhaust off and going with an exhaust from Bold performance. All 304 stainless steel and a great price.
Like I said the Gibson exhaust is nice and Jason is a great guy to work with. Just giving a heads up to people that the exhaust will shows signs of rust.

5th gen gibson catback, COVID SALE extended
I purchased and bolted on the stainless version with dual black tips over Xmas break on my 2018 TRD. I read all of the posts in this thread so I knew what I was getting into.
Out of the box, everything was loosely packed and the black tips only had a single layer of bubble wrap which I think is insufficient. Gibson should add a layer of foam under the bubble wrap for more protection. The finish on the tips was decent, some scrapes here and there. The rest of the exhaust system was in good shape and nothing was missing.
I took my time and installed it in around three hours. Using ramps and dropping the spare tire helps a lot for ease of access. I did have to cut my stock exhaust since the bolts at the rear flange were nasty. Like many others experiencing this problem, the u-pipe over the rear crossmember kept rotating no matter how much I tightened the clamps. I tightened the clamps as far as they would allow, even snapping one of them in the process using my breaker bar. Luckily, replacements are sold at any auto parts store. Took it to a local muffler shop where they made adjustments, added a few welds and added another hanger to the u-pipe for $40.
The exhaust has a deep note to it which I like. It does drone a bit but that doesn't bother me. Now I can hear my truck running and annoy the neighbors so I'm satisfied. I will probably swap out the dual tips for something more low profile after a couple of years but we'll see. I'll get some pics posted when I get the chance.

A bolt-on system should never require someone to go to a shop for modification or welding. That’s just poor fitment and poor quality control by a company. It’s just the truth.
I’ve bought and installed many cat back systems in my day, none of which required this. As long as everyone knows that it is required then cool. That alone is reason enough, for me, to shop elsewhere. The reason being is this; if a company is willing to sell something marketed as bolt-in knowing there are fitment issues, then that speaks volume to their commitment to quality and detail. Can you even expect to get years out of the system? I’m willing to bet no.

it doesn't need welding. Mine had zero fitment issues. for the price its and ok system.
Here's some pictures of what the shop did to take care of the fitment. I'm not bashing Gibson's exhaust system, just showing what I had to do for my install. I've installed a few other exhaust systems on other vehicles and this isn't the first time I've had to visit a shop.

Thanks for posting this again. I know my post was harsh but I’ve seen so many complaints about fitment that Gibson either doesn’t know there’s an issue or doesn’t care. My guess is the latter of the two. Either way, super helpful and I’m glad you like it!!! I’m hoping it hold up for you my friend.

My last update/review of this exhaust. I have two regrets. 1. Buying it. 2. Not getting rid of it sooner.
It got so bad at the end, I hated driving my 4runner, which I love. 3yrs and 45k of headaches, yelling over it, the never ending rattles and the drone. The drone. That drone.

This is still my best selling exhaust for the 4Runner, hands down. Now, it is the least expensive with the deals I've worked with Gibson for this forum for members, so I sell more than the Magnaflow, MBRP and Borla, etc, but I've had the least amount of returns with the Gibson, that's why I push it.
Now, as mentioned, I have the Magnaflow (and new overland version), Borla, and the MBRP which is also nice. Feel free to call/text me 717-319-2100 if anyone is open to these other brands and I'll work a deal for you!
