Gibson Exhaust- Installation Issues

Hi all,

Has anyone here experienced problems installing their Gibson cat-back exhaust system? I thought this would be an easy project, but I spent the entire evening trying to alleviate alignment/rubbing issues. I cut the existing pipe according to the directions and I've tried everything I can think of.

No matter what I do, the tailpipe hits the crossmember, hits the upper control arm, or doesn't fit in the rear hanger.

I'm hoping someone might be able to post pictures of their setup so I can see where my issues are.

I have not installed one, but Jason B, a vendor on here, sells the kit so he might have some experience.

Not much help for this scenario but I will say in all the times I've put on a supposedly fitted exhaust system, I have had it fit together properly exactly once (and I still had to tweak it a bit before I installed it but I won't count that as I suspect it was shipping damage.)

I’ve heard this from some of my buddies too. I was hoping the Gibson would be the exception to that.

I’m still hoping to get pictures of anyone has them!

I had the same issue when I installed mine. I ended up cutting the stock downpipe a little further back than the instructions state. There is a dampener attached to the stock downpipe with a bracket welded on, I ended up cutting that off and everything slipping into place really easily. I'm gonna take some photos right now. If you have any questions PM and I'll help you out.

Thanks for the reply and pictures. This is definitely helpful. Unfortunately I have a CA emissions truck, so it seems like I have an additional bend in my downpipe and a flange for my CC. I think that’s what makes things not line up.

That's weird, I live in CA and I didn't have any weird bends. Can you send a pic?

Mine rattles around against the frame. It didn't fit together as well as I thought they would. I'm going to crank the clamps as hard as I can, and last step would be to weld it.

Ok so on the back of the frame, there is a metal loop bolted onto the frame, flip that loop 180 degrees. That eliminated my rattle. I'll take pics in the morning.

Thanks for the insight, dudes. sugjavier ‘s post leads me to believe that my muffler is about 2” too far back, which is causing the rubbing. I’m going to take it to the muffler shop this morning since I don’t feel like cutting more of my exhaust apart.

Glad to know my pics was able to help a little bit. If I remember correctly, my mechanic did have to cut by the catalytic converter area and weld in a small pipe which is about the same size
