What would you rather have? A fully loaded limited 4R or a 2009 Land Rover LR3 HSE? They are roughly the same price, give or take a few thousand. Spare the reliabilty argument though, I'm fully aware of both cars' lineage.

Like I said, im aware of the reliability of both trucks. Im a Toyota loyal...last three trucks were Tundra, GX460, Tundra. Im just starting to wonder about the quality (and no, not because of the recalls). Im just about to hit the 3 year mark on my 2007 Tundra Limited. Its definitely nice but it really lacks the feel of my previous gen Tundra and, obviously, the GX. Sagging dash, rattles and squeaks everywhere, clock that never keeps time, differential and transmission issues. For the record, the truck only has 28k on it.

I test drove the 4R limited...It is nice for sure. Just something missing and cant put my finger on it. I have to buy something when this lease is up so im hesitant to jump on another new model year.

Side note: I had a Blizzard Pearl, Limited 4x4 w/ 3r row seat on order with pricing arranged and order confirmation signed. Now, the dealer is telling me that they cant place the order and that I will have to try and get one from allocation. Thus the second guessing/thinking aloud.

Hard for me to have a discussion and put quality/reliability aside because it is such a priority for me personally. I always thought Land Rovers are very unique or signature, have a classic look and heritage, and almost carry a "designer" (as in cool looks, flair) appeal. They've always been very capable off road. The power is good, but horrible gas mileage.

Having said that, their quality is in the lower tier and the engineering of the drivetrain seems inferior to most of its competition. At the end of the day, cool looking, capable offroad, but too inefficient and unreliable for me to give a nod. They're like Harley Davidson before they cleaned up their quality in the 90's. If ya gotta have one, it's great to be seen driving it but accept all of the hassle and costs that comes with it. In other words, get the 4R

I have always loved Rovers, especially the Range Rover, always wanted one. I like the LR3's too, need to man it up a bit though like the Limited's.

Well, as cool as they are, interiors especially, Land Rover has horrible reliability. Some of my friends have bought or leased the Range Rover over the last 5 years and spent way too much time at the shop. So much so they knew the maintenance shop personnel names, like they are old friends.

Land Rover....as much as I like them, I'm not a gambling man.

2010 Limited 4runner vs 2009 LR3 HSE:

If I could get either vehicle new and at the same cost, I go with the LR3.

Background: I am currently driving a 2007 4runner Sport. My previous vehicle was a 2002 LR Discovery.

Note: LR3 is a complete revamp over the Discovery. I loved my Discovery but had terrible engine seal/over heating/head gasket type problems after 65k miles. Those type issues are long gone since the LR3 (LR4 is even better).

2010 Limited is priced on the high end IMO (if i get a 2010 4runner it would be Trail or SR5 with leather).

PS: at 35k miles my 4runner had front wheel hub replaced, at 65k miles 4runner had rear diff replaced.

Reliability and quality are pretty big reasons for my choice in vehciles so 4Runner hands down. I know first hand a couple of friends that loved their Rovers but after about 50k miles they started nickel and diming them which is rediculous for that little of miles.

LR have nice design but their execution is poor and are rated as one of the most problematic vehicles for sale in the US and are barely better than the woeful Hummer line.

No question about it.....I'd take the Land Rover LR3 in a heartbeat. BTW, if you're talking about a new one, they are now called the LR4. They look similar, but they've been updated enough that Land Rover felt a new designation was in order. The ONLY thing I don't like about the LR4 is the transparent lens on the taillamps.

LOL, I'm already a member of that forum. Just because I've always loved Land Rovers in general and it's good to get inside info from people who own them.

BTW, I also think its funny that Toyota is advertising the 2010 4Runner on the site. Well, not so much that they are advertising there, but more that it's just another example of the fact that Toyota IS advertising the 2010 4Runner in the first place. Some people claim that Toyota is not doing anything to advertise them.

yeah, i drove both the LR3 and the LR4. The LR4 is much nicer on the inside. Gone are the multiple buttons and dials, green screens of old. At 54k for the "HSE Plus" its cost prohibitive. you can score a slightly used LR3 with factory warranty for about 45k ish.

Im thinking that the 4R is the best/safest bet. I just wish that Toyota dealers had better customer service...i.e. loaner cars for service and whatnot.

That is a tough one! Before the 5th 4R came out I was looking at an 06' 4R Limited and a 07' LR3 HSE. I would have taken the LR3 10x's over the 4R......but......the reliability of the LR was a big concern of mine so I held out, and I am glad I did I really do like the 5th 4R, but the LR does have a lot of 'bells and whistles'. I have seen the new LR4 on-line but not in person. I have a feeling they made some nice improvemnts. If cost of repairs is not an issue I say you flip a coin!

Not here they dont. The offer a free shuttle....or, "the bus to Cartegena" as I call it. (yeah that's right, I dropped a Romancing the Stone reference) Sucks. I used it once and it took me over an hour to get home. I live 10 miles form the dealership.

LOL... my thoughts exactly. A carsalesman buddy told me the reason old landrovers VIN numbers started with SALTYxxxxxxxxxxx was because thats how you felt when you traded it in..

Yep, mine provides free loaners, free oil changes, free car washes, and free hamburgers and hot dogs when you come in for service on weekends :bravo:. The oil changes are available at your normal service intervals. The car washes you just line up for. Oh, and I forgot free manicures for the women. There's also a very confortable waiting area with a large screen TV. I'm blown away by this level of service, I've never seen anything like it. The business model works - they are tops in my area. My wife wants to trade her car in just because of the service.
