I'm probably not the only one a little disappointed with the role out of this new model. Seems like a lot of hype but a whole lot to back it up. What do I mean?... well, the only model I'd really consider AND only if it was offered in a V-8 format would be the Trail Edition. Plug in my zip code to build and it's not even available in Portland, Oregon. Not trying to be a downer to those who are excited to get their mitts on one of these new 4Runners but it's just not my bag. To each their own and I respect those who appreciate the qualities of this latest incarnation but I'm happy that I have my 4th generation. It has everything I want and need...no upgrade necessary for me...:hatsoff:

V8 for me only. It seems they used the exact same frame/platform etc. It was a cosmetic upgrade and thats about it.
We currently have the fastest, most powerful, 4runners ever haha.

New model looks bad ass but not being offered in a V8 takes some of the sting of our gen shuffled back a generation. Maybe in a few years we get a V8 about the time I could afford to but another one.

yea but let me ask you this... if you could trade in your v8 for the new model same trim and and you cannot sell... i bet you the majority+ would do it when it came right down to gametime. people like to speculate big, but once money meets the road, the truth comes out.
the new 4runner looks great in and out and is an improvement over the 4th gen and logically so. i'd take one and i am a v8 limited here. and since none of us have actually driven one, who knows, it might just be good enough since the v6 has proven to be no slouch.

I guess I'm in the minority too. No center diff and no V8, I wouldn't trade mine even up for a 5th gen.
I wouldn't even trade up my V6. One of the best features of the 4Runner was its 4WD system. Gone is the versatility of a 2WD/AWD-HI/AWD-LO/4WD-HI/4WD-LO system that couldn't be matched. Add a rear diff lock (i.e. 2009 Trail Edition) and you are set!!! That'd a deal breaker for me, more so than the V8.

I _LOVE_ having a 4x4 v8 sport. I love being able to drive in Oregon in the winters and no have to worry about studded tires or chains. Driving around Camp Pendleton when we have field training following humvees and 5-ton trucks on the trails. I will be holding on to my 05, if anything I'm going to trade up to an 08 with the same features. Not sure yet.
Its good to see a fellow Portlandian, Dblues28.

Just another "minority" chiming in. I can honestly say, without a doubt that I wouldn't trade up.
Although, I am trying to convince my wife she needs a new 2010 SUV.:wink2:

Even though I am a big fan of the V8, I am actually more disappointed in the lack of full-time 4wd in the SR5 and Trail Edition in the 5th gen. Being able to drive from dry pavement onto an icy side road and back again without having to switch back and forth between 2wd and 4wd is a huge advantage for me.
And for what it's worth, I bought my '07 brand new with the expectations of owning it for 8-10 years. So by the time I'm in the market for a new 4R, I will be anxiously awaiting the 6th gen. :biggrin2:

Exactly, far superior drivetrain in the 4th. The 4th gen's can be in locked or unlocked in 4H and 4L. That doesn't appear to be the case in the 5th on the Limited, looks like 4L is locked only.
Is the 5th's TC a Torsen? There are no indications that it is.
