Glove Box won't open - any ideas?

While locking my glovebox, I heard a loud *click* or *snap* and haven't been able to unlock it. The key turns in the locked and unlocked position which in turn locks the actual handle and unlocks it but, doesn't open.

I've tried wd40 inside the lock, attempting to turn the lock back and forth numerous times, tried a different key, jiggled the door, pushed the top of the door in while turning key. And, have had absolutely no luck. sigh.

There isn't much space on top of the door and can get a putty knife in there, but, not understanding how the lock actually works inside, I don't know what to do once I have slid it in there.

If you have ANY ideas, I'd greatly appreciate it! Really do not want to pry it open but, I've tried everything I could think of, and have googled many forums and no solution that works.

Looks like you just might have to pry it open. Sounds like the mechanism on the inside broke or fell off or something. I've never messed with one of those things.

Please just take out the bottom screws that hold it in, don't pry it right away.

It should be much easier to open with the bottom of the glovebox undone.

Happened to me too. Good advice about the bottom screws.
My story is not happy, but $50 later it's all back to looking normal. But no longer lockable with a key. Too many latch/key cylinder parts missing.

This is an ancient thread but I had it happen to me today.

I was able to get it all apart and back together so it closes but the latch part is still not working correctly

I bought an Amazon replacement latch, does anyone know if the lock cylinder has to be in place in order for the assembly to work?
