I wonder about the electrified rail idea. A Tesla model 3 charges at 32 amps, I believe. Not sure at which voltage. Haven’t researched a lot. But if that’s true, and you’re driving, you need to get more from that rail than you’re using in order to gain battery charge. So you need to subtract rate of usage from rate of charge. If usage exceeds charge rate, you won’t charge the battery, though you might extend your range.Electrified rails in one lane of a road would be an option.
Hop into the lane to charge, hop out when you need to go your own way.
But what will we be paving our roads with if not oil?
Roofing materials?
RAC?
Rubberized Asphalt Concrete (RAC)
Then there’s the problem that everyone will be trying to ride that rail. Could a rail provide enough current for hundreds of cars at once? Can it be done without physical contact with the rail? Can power plants keep up? Lotta questions that I’m not qualified to answer.
