GM Truck Wheels on 4Runner?

I was at the U-Pull it today when I came across a late 80's early 90's Chevrolet K1500 that still has all of its wheels. They are GM "1618" wheels and I was never a fan of them back in the day but my creative juices started flowing anyway. Now I have heard in the past that 6 lug GM trucks have the same bolt pattern as 6 lug Toyota trucks. The problem is Toyota wheels have a larger I.D. to accommodate the larger hub diameter than GM. So a person could fit Toyota wheels on a GM with relative ease but not the other way around. The other problem is stud diameters but that can be addressed with different lug nuts. I am a machinist by trade so I could bore out the hub diameter of the wheels to whatever size it needs to be and maybe throw a spacer at them if needed (more backspacing research is required). I would prefer to use the GM center caps (painted as well) if depth allowed for it. I would have to essentially create a counter-bore instead of a though hole for the hub.

So before you all flame me to death for considering GM wheels on my 3rd gen try to imagine the 1618 wheels painted a semi gloss/satin black with the 4x4 cavity painted TRD red or a silver or any dang color for that matter. I wouldn't really be considering this if my 1996 wheels were not in need of a makeover. I could just be like many many others and paint my stockers or I could do something a different. I figure the amount of labor and supplies required to prep either set of wheels is going to be the same. The yard wants $18/wheel (with tire fwiw).

Also, if there are any ambitious photoshop experts out there knock yourself out. I wouldn't have a clue how to make the wheels look black or else I might try.

They require wheel spacers, make sure you use the correct lugs.
I use them as spares if my normal tires are being changed.

so you had to buy an adapter, because they didnt bolt up is what you are saying? basically your trying to say im wrong, but you admitted that you had to modify the mounting system to accommodate the wheels...





not to mention that those are 15" wheels and they probably wont clear your calipers or tie rod ends because of the different offset as well

You can machine out the middle to the correct bore if the material is present.

I use to run aftermarket wheels that were designed for a chevy but like stated above the center bore is too small so I got spacers. Lug centric spacers to be exact. Worse idea! Horrible bump steer and wobbling. If you can find toyota to chevy hub centric spacers/adapters than that might be an option for you. Personally, I don't think all the trouble is worth it, just find some Toyota wheels.

I once saw absent of Benz wheels on a VW. It just seemed wrong to me.

The Toyota wheels are pretty nice and can be easily repainted.

The wheels are not 15's they are 16's GM part number 12325550

I can machine the wheels I.D. to the required diameter.

Did the Benz wheels have Benz logos on them? If so I can understand it looking wrong.



What is the backspacing on 1996 Aluminum 16" 4Runner wheels?

ahh you are correct, im used to those wheels in the 5 lug for the s10 and blazer, but still hub bore is way too small, and i dont think you can machine it, but i have never tried... but i think machining out that much of the wheel would take a lot structurally away from the wheel im not sure what the offset is, but im pretty sure the 4runner wheels push out further than the chevys, as the chevy axles are much wider in comparison (yes i know their trucks are wider as well)

that was added after i made my post... if you look at the OPs first post at the bottom of it you will notice its been edited... in his origonal post it mentioned nothing about that stuff. maybe you should know you facts before trying to call someone out, especially when you come late to the party. and it was not an attack on desert36's post, it was simply a sarcastic way of informing him that he contradicted himself...

now if you have anything useful or helpful to add, like idk the offsets of the wheels in question feel free to chime in with your imput other wise hush you

After some more research I found out that those wheels have a +48mm offset. This is 20mm more than the stock 4Runner wheels (correct me if I am wrong). I have a feeling that 20mm or ~3/4" spacers are hard to find and I would like to keep the thickness to a minimum. I am assuming that particular thickness is either too thick to use stock lug studs with or too thin for bolt on spacers. Is this true?

So is it worth it to buy spacers or if I get gm wheels then should I just send them to a machine shop to get them bored out

I like the look of some gm wheels and I would love to put them on my 3rd gen 4runner but do they even make an adapter for Toyota to chevy wheels

So center hole for hub is smaller. Question is does anyone make an adapter to go from yota hub to Chevy? I know I could use wheel spacers but I would prefer all the weight be distributed on the hub and studs and not be just on the studs.

This is the only option I'm aware of for hub centric adapters: 6x'__' to 6x'__' Bolt On Adapters | Hub Centric | US Wheel Adapters They're about $180 per pair.

You might also be able to find a machine shop that will open up the center bore for you...
