Looking to get a Midland radio and couldn’t find any setups with the longer 6db antenna. Looks like everyone is going with the short “ghost” antenna. The idea is the mount it on the hood. If you have this setup or similar taller hood mounted antenna, could you post some pics and share what equipment you have and how it’s setup?

i have the 6db mounted on the roof on a frontrunner mount. You can mount it wherever the ghost antenna will fit, they have the same mount and thickness at the base.
FYI, the 6db works better in most scenarios. Me and my buddy both have the ghost and the 6db and tested it driving from california to new mexico from deserts to the hills. Ghost antenna looks better though if you care about aesthetics.

Don’t really care for looks, but thank you for confirming the 6db version has a noticeable difference. My only concern is fitting into garages overtime. I know it’s a whip style antenna, but I can’t imagine it lasting very long with hitting (if that’s even a concern) for the usual garage heights I see (7-8ft)

I have 3 different antennas for my MXT275 GMRS radio and 2 of them simply mount to the mag mount I have mounted on the roof centered just in front of the roof rack and my Maxtrax. The cable i ran through the door to the roof.
I use the Ghost antenna up there most of the time so I can fit in garages as well as my own garage. But i also keep the 6db whip antenna handy so i can swap out for my adventures where I need longer range. Easy to unscrew and swap.
IMO its important to have both since there are tradeoffs of gain vs radiation pattern when off-roading. Can't hurt to have the 3 dBi option for coms when you're on uneven terrain and need to reach the rigs around you, then the higher gain options for once you get to flatter and higher ground and can take advantage of the range.

Parts from my kids erector set and some double sided tape. lol The antenna it came with was magnetic.
I have my 6DB antenna attached to my rago ditch light mounts with their HAM radio antenna bracket. The antenna tip sits just under the 7’ mark so it will still hit my garage door weather strip, but it’s a flexible antenna so it’s just flexes and fits no problem.

Is there a way to make that antenna straight? That crookedness would make my OCD crazy
Maybe. You'd have to find a ditch light mount that sits parallel to ground. I believe most ditch light brackets match the angle of the hood, which pitches forward... and the antenna's length accentuates that :/.
TBH I don't notice it nowadays, though it did bug me in the beginning.
The antenna also came a little bent out of the box.

Try using Caliraisedled low profile ditch light bracket. They lay flat and straight. (at least mine does)

How did you run the wire inside the truck under the rear hatch? Did you tuck it under the weatherstripping and then cross over into the rear cargo area?

I did it under the weather stripping and filed down some of the metal so it wouldn't bulge, but its so thin i should have just done it over the weatherstripping since it can leak under the weatherstripping. Then i ran it under the panels to the front.
