Gobi and other options

Who is evryone ordering from these days.. They have gone up quite a bit since i looked last.

What other racks are being used? Do you have examples of them with pictures and prices?

I am particluar to the Gobi Stealth myself or that type of form factor, full mess floor, no sunroof cutout. Has to have crossbars for my thule box, and fly rod Titan vault.

I am still not a big fan of The Baja rack. I had one for my FJ didnt like the tube sizing and being two parts, no no floor sure it helped with shipping. Yet, when I loaded it wit my Hardiggs it would sag a lite no bueno..

I talked to Trail Ready said that they would throw in a sunroof insert as well as the current promotions, free shipping and a ladder, plus no charge to fit light bar. i did also see a code for $100 going around. Is this what most if not better than others are getting?

Doc, I started keeping track of various mods that interested me in a spreadsheet. Among other mods, roof racks are on there, with advertised weights, prices, and dimensions. This list is by no means complete, but it's a start. Looks like the hyperlinks still work. Hope this helps.

You mean Trail Duty? I bought from them a couple years ago, they have the best pricing bar none. Gobi is very strict with their MAP pricing and won't let dealers advertise for much less than retail. The additional customizations I had done to my Gobi were all done free of charge- Gobi doesn't charge extra for them either.

Bajarack sells all of their rack versions with added mesh instead of just the load bars for a small upcharge.

I am very hesitant based on my previous first hand experience. I would need to see them side by side and play around with it for about a week too see if it met my needs.

Gotcha, I'm not trying to sell you on one just giving my opinion lol I've had their standard and flat rack on my FJ as well and it served me well

I had the standard with lightbar on my FJ. A decent rack but the features of it are not inline with how I took advantage of it. I have looked over most evrything out there and I a still leaning towards the Gobi full length floor. They give me a ladder and now a tool box for it. It also has the crossrails that will work with my Thule Box. I have a fly rod box but will most likely change it to the Titan Vault and keep it on there during the summer months so I can just pull over if I feel like it and fish.

I just had a GOBI Stealth installed on my 2014 4Runner Trail Edition a few months ago and love it. Yes, GOBI is not the least expensive rack out there but neither is the 4Runner the least expensive 4WD SUV out there. GOBI did the install, along with a free ladder, wind faring, and a few minor customizations, at no extra charge. They matched the best price from other dealers and were excellent to deal with. They also installed RIGID LED lights - four front and two rear, which are fantastic. I am a photographer and wanted a solid roof rack on which I could stand with a heavy tripod and camera set up, and the Stealth works perfectly. One minor caveat. The weight of the ladder on the rear hatch is just enough to hinder the hatch gas lifts, so I have stronger lifts on order from GOBI. Attached photo shows the rack in use.

GOBI did the wiring for your lights?

Thanks - yes, the GOBI is rock solid & relatively low profile. The lens is a Canon 600mm f/4 on a Canon EOS-1D X camera body.

Yes, GOBI did the wiring and installation of the lights. Their racks come prewired for lights, but then of course you have to run the wires down through the chassis and into a relay & junction box, and, install switches. It was pretty much an all day install for the rack, the lights, and the wiring. They do charge extra for the lighting install beyond the rack itself.

Steve, if you do a search for lift gate struts there are a few different posts on them. I re-posted a link the other day for someone that was looking for an alternative to the rather expensive Gobi option.

I just ordered this from Trail Ready. Stealth rack was $1499 with free ladder, wind deflector, sunroof insert, and free shipping. They are super nice to fldeal with as well. Very polite, patient and helpful.
