Gobi Rack Question

Hi folks,

I have a 5th gen and am looking at getting a Gobi rack. I have a line on one from a private seller (so I don’t have to wait forever for Gobi) but it the stealth rack with the sunroof cutout. But my 4runner doesn’t have the sunroof. The rack includes the sun cover insert. So I’m thinking no big deal just keep the insert in. But I wanted to see if anyone thought this was a bad idea for any reason...? Any reason why I should not get the rack with the sunroof cutout and insert for a vehicle that doesn’t have a sunroof? Thanks!!

If it's a good deal go for it... Don't see how it can be a bad idea if you have the insert for it. You may have to get new seals depending how old the rack is. I think it's 130$ from Gobi for the kit. Some people have reused the seals and don't have a problem.

I just installed mine about a month ago. I love it.

Thanks. It’s not a great deal but it’s pretty much exactly what gobi would charge and I don’t have to wait 18 to 1000 weeks or whatever their ridiculous lead time is. And the rack is brand new, never been installed in the original packaging.

I would say it's better for you because if you ever decide to sell the rack, you can sell to someone with or without sunroof. :becky:

There will be a gap around the insert. But I like it for it is easier to install things on the rack and provides another tie down spot. I can add pictures to have this make more sense.

I think it's an even better deal to get one with the sunroof. Like someone said above, helps with access to mounting points. Also better for resale if you decide down the road that you want to go a different route.
