Gobi Rack Wind Noise

I'm about to order a stealth rack and light bar, was thinking of getting a light for the rear too. Anyone see any advantages over the flat stealth vs. the one with the rise? I'm not hauling any 30' kayaks, I don't require the flat one.

Also, if we were to try and coordinate a group buy, how many orders do we need to get together for Gobi to offer a discount? Maybe I'll call and find out today.

I keep hearing that the light bar is a good solution. At least the only one I can apply to my existing rack. I live in WINDY West Texas and the wind noise is... wow! That being said... it is the best damn rack I have ever seen. I'll deal with the noise and save for a light bar.

Any suggestions for a 40 inch bar that doesn't cost more than the rack itself? Have mercy!

I got the double row Cree LED from OKled light bars. Costs 350 cookies. Figured I don't do much heavy off roading to need rigid durability. Working well off the bat so far, just gotta retighten the front seal bolts in 3-6 months to prevent water ingress. I live in southeast Houston, and it's windy here also.

It's not a kayak it's a surf ski, and it's 21 feet, not 30. If you need to carry anything over 7 feet long and would want it to lay flat, a no rise will do that. 2 by 4, paddle board, ladder, whatever. Other than, if you have a very low garage door ....

I just dropped close to 3k on the stealth rack with a 40" lightbar

Thanks for the info. Did you notice any difference with your wind noise?

Like I stated in my replies to your posts earlier, wind noise dropped to the point that I can listen to classical music on the drive at 80 mph with volume tuned in at 32. There are some whistling at low speed. 30-50 mph

Wind Noise Update

Important Information!
I called and had a great conversation with Gobi. I was advised to increase the angle of my fairing and it has improved the wind noise significantly. Here is a picture of the adjusted position.
In addition, I found an alternative to the Plastidip barrier as well. This is a nonstick silicon pad that prevents the roof from being scratched. Here is a link for that as well. Go2 Repair Wrap - Self-Fusing Multipurpose Silicone Wrap from Loctite Adhesives

I appreciate all the advice along the way and thought I would share my findings as well. I am still considering light bars in the future but I don't feel the urgency with so much improvement with the fairing adjustment.

With the fairing on, my wind noise (for a no rise Gobi) is negligible. Any rack that is up over the drivers seat will have some detectable noise. Here are the requested pics for my Gobi no rise rack. Hate to do this but every time I upload a new pic it deletes the studying one. So this will be in multiple posts.

Hi do you know how much height this no rise rack adds to your roof?

Here Is a pic of front, which is about 6 inches. The end if the tape measure is seated in the plastic strip " rain gutter" or whatever it's called. Rear is a little lower.

I just put a Gobi Stealth on my 4th Gen 4Runner. I know this thread is a few months old, but has anyone else had issues with noise from their sunroof? I have noticed, with the wind deflector, it creates random pressure on my sunroof, which causes a lot of noise from the plastic components covering the slide rails under the sunroof. Curious if anyone else has/had this issue and their resolution?

Very lucky to have a good friend with a shop. He helped me a ton. Much respect for those of you that have done this alone. Took us about 2.5 hours to do but we weren't rushing. Very very happy with the quality of this rack. Seriously well done. No quality issues at all. The shop guys were impressed. Everything lined up and well, just worked. Next up, saving for ARB Awning and extras.
As for wind noise. All I can say is that the no rise has a lot less wind noise than the yakama load warrior I had on for awhile. It's not bad at all really. I'm sure some days may be a bit worse but today I couldn't really hear it. Super happy camper right now!

Wind noise

I must say that after driving the 4runner on many different roads and interstates over the last 5 days the wind noise from the Gobi NoRise roof rack is really barely noticeable. You can hear it under certain conditions but it's very been loud or troublesome. I'm sure that there will be days that it could be worse but so far I haven't experienced that and really, I can't tell its up there. This will change some once I add some accessories but that is to be expected. Like others have stated, positioning the wind deflector has a big effect on wind noise and I think not having the rise is a big factor. I would like to drive a rise and no rise back to back to see. If wind noise is a factor for you then the no rise works in my opinion. BTW, no sunroof, this could be another factor..

I have the Gobi stealth, and I do 70 miles highway driving a day usually around 80mph. I played around with mine, with nothing on the rack, no faring and no light bar the wind noise was insane. Better with the faring on. The light bar is 40" straight both light bar and faring the noise was okay. Removed the faring and just running the light bar and I hear no noise.

I got the same no rise rack. I'm curious as to which lightbar you got . I have a good bit of wind noise around 70 and want to get the same lightbar if it indeed minimizes the noise

Just got my Gobi Stealth and installed it. Just by asking, Gobi made the front cross bar the same height as the rest if the rack, "no rise" is what they call it. So when I load 12'6" or 14' SUP boards, the front bar doesn't interfere with the "flatness" of the boards. Also helps when I carry 21 foot surf skis. I tested it without the fairing and it was quiet up to 60, then got a roar sound. So I put my fairing on, with some paddle board rail tape under it to protect the paint. Quiet enough, but I can hear my kayak saddles a little. The sunroof slider seems to make the mouse imperceptible.

When you say "sunroof slider" are you referring to the shade? How's the sound when the sunroof is open? Being that it's been awhile, are you still happy with the purchase / setup? Thanks

How many inches from the bottom of the fairing to the front of the roof? Would be easier than me asking for the exact angle lol.
