GOBI Roof Rack *Group Buy* Winter 2016

Called Gobi directly and gave them my number to look up the update on when I should be expecting my order. Gobi called me back the next day and told me end of the month it will be done. I should expect it early April. I ordered and got billed on 12/21/16.

Every experience I have had with Gobi and Trail Duty has been great so far. I already knew when ordering the rack to expect about 16 weeks for the order. April sounds about right. I emphasize with some of you that are getting the run around. I hope they make up for your inconvenience. Give some grace to the customer service representative and I am confident they would work with you.

I will not get my rack in time for my most recent upcoming trip, but there are several other trips in the future that I am sure the rack will be there for! Cheers everyone!

the good news. My rack is ready. the bad news. they cant install it (local) until April 4th. I guess I've waited this long, what's another 2 weeks.

My 5th gen Gobi stealth is still available. Lots of interest, but trying to find a buyer closer. Shipping costs are prohibitive. Anyone in the Pacific Northwest who needs one and can't wait on Gobi can see my post, over on classifieds.

I went with the removable ones because I knew I'd end up hating where the fixed ones were placed at some point. For example I'd like the rear bar to be snug up against bins in order to lock them in place front to rear. An adjustable bar means I can accommodate any size bin. Plus I can adjust the spacing for kayaks/paddleboards.

Other people have used the removable crossbars as an easier way to remove a RTT, leaving the crossbars bolted to the tent and just undoing the end clamps on the bars.

The welded, permanent crossbars are probably a stronger solution though, plus there is a gap in the mesh that gives you greater access to the bar and more clearance.

I was told with the group buy, even with removable cross bars it will still be full mesh.

Removable cross bars have full mesh by default since the bars can be anywhere. I don't know about the particulars of this group buy, but the standard for the fixed crossbars is the gap under them unless you specifically request full mesh.

Very good points for both options, I appreciate the responses. I think I'm going to go with removable crossbars so that I have more flexibility.

FYI, I received an email 2/22 that said mine would be shipping 3/6. I'm number 28; 4th gen. Called them a couple days ago to check in, since I didn't get charged or a call about the shipment. They didn't know anything about when it would ship. She was going to check and call back that afternoon. Haven't heard back. I was expecting this, so I'm not mad. Just letting everyone know it looks like things are running a good bit behind.

Edit- got the invoice. Says 5-10 business days until arrival.

I wasn't part of the group buy and just ordered mine today. She mentioned 8-12 weeks so I figure July some time. Setting my expectations accordingly I suppose. I'm normally not one to wait so long for a product but in this instance I really do feel like it's more than worth waiting for.

This puts me at about 17 weeks for turn-around...May can't get here soon enough!

Just got an email response from Gobi after calling them last week. They said my "estimated" ship date is March 30. I ordered at the end of November so that would put me at 16 weeks. That's IF they actually ship it on March 30. I am number 17 on the list and ordered directly through Gobi.

I ordered November 18 and am #1. They pushed me back to March 22 last I heard. Looks like now will be 30th if 1 and 17 are in the same group. I think we would have better luck consulting the Mayan calendar at this point.

I'm not too bothered by the amount of time it is taking. What irritates me is that they tell me a ship date, then that date comes and goes with no explanation. Then a new ship date 1 week later is assigned. Then the same thing again. This makes 4 times.
