Gobi Stealth: no rise vs standard

I just put an order in with Gobi but I need to finalize on the no-rise option to lock it in. I originally liked the rise look, but now the no-rise has really grown on me so I could go either way.

Standard pros:
- "free" option
- more room and protection for the lightbar (not sure if I want to bother with one though)

No rise pros:
- flat top for lumber/pipe hauling
- flat top for paddleboard hauling

Gobi said the no-rse would be $165 extra (I think that's the exact amount, it was close to that if not) which surprised me. Since getting a kayak I haven't taken the paddleboard out and I think the kayak would be fine on the standard stealth even just on the crossbar pads I'm currently using. For the infrequent times I haul lumber or PVC I don't think the 2" rise would be a big deal, especially considering I don't have to haul more than a few miles from either the orange or blue big box wood-gettin' place.

Anyone regret not getting the no-rise?

I don't regret it, but then I didn't have to pay extra for it either. I guess they must have been getting too many requests for that customization.

Personal opinion is I would not spend $160 on a no rise option. There is so much other cool s**t to spend that money on. Ive been happy with the rise and have not run into issues hauling anything. I mostly use Yakima carriers and they seem to elevate above the crossbar to about the same height as the front bar.

Seriously though, it's pretty slick. It was a purely aesthetic decision for myself. No regerts.

That's what I'm talking about! I'm basically resold on the no-rise. Do you have any more pics? Some colors I think the standard rise works better but would love more affirmation that the MGM wants the no-rise.

I ordered a no-rise, adjustable crossbar version. Luckily, I purchased from trail duty and they were still honoring a $100 discount and free ladder/shipping. There was no upcharge for the no-rise option. Some may refute that, but my invoice displayed everything very clearly (that's not to say they didn't include the charge and elect not to even say anything). Total came out to roughly $1,400. It was delivered in 7 weeks and 5 days.

However

That is not usually the case around here from what I've observed.

I have had mostly the same experience ordering through trail duty (ordered last week). No upcharge for the no rise, got the free ladder, fairing, and gas shocks, and used their coupon for 100 off. 1400ish shipped. Just added a note to the order and the invoice reflects said note was passed on to Gobi.

Hopefully it gets here in a reasonable time. Can't wait :nod:

Personally, I don't understand why they ever built it with the "rise" to begin with. To me it makes much more sense, both functionally and aesthetically, to have everything level across the top.

When lights where different and not the smaller leds we use nwo they needed more room and more protection as well for the incandescent and hids.

I've only had my gobi for 1 week but the no-rise was the obvious choice for me. I don't plan on putting a light bar up there & aesthetically I like the same height all the way around & it will make awkward long loads that much easier to mount. I was charged $165 extra but I don't have any regrets about it. I can definitely see the valid points in favor of the standard rise stealth but if you're paying $1500 what's an extra 165? That was my thoughts anyway but I was also a little worried about our 7ft garage doors and my runner with a 2" lift.

My truck is tight at my work parking garage, keep it as low as is feasible cuz once you bolt things onto it, it only gets even higher.

It was the perfect combo IMO. to get it light bar "ready" only makes sense to keep that option open down the road. Even tho I don't plan on it, it's nice to know I still have the option!
