Gobi w/ ladder, or Whispbars?

Hey, I am spinning in circles over here...missed the group buy, as I wasn't sure I'd be able to afford it, but now realize I can, but really don't want to be drilling any holes. Does this effectively preclude the Gobi? I was looking at Yakima Whispbars, as I also want to be able to haul a kayak...but was wondering...has anyone found something "in the middle" for what I am trying to do? My '97 has a yak rack and a load warrior, but I want to leave all that intact even though I don't currently drive it (engine failure)...and was looking for something tougher and/or sleeker for the TRDP. Thoughts?

You don't have to drill holes to mount a hobo rack or ladder.

I'm not sure what the actual question is. But the Gobi doesn't require drilling and the Yakima Whispbar are just crossbars. Can you please explain what 'the middle' is for what you're even trying to accomplish?
