Going to look at an 85

Tomorrow morning. I heard about this truck through a friend of mine. The guys getting married and is selling off extra "stuff". It's a 5spd truck, new brakes lines, brake hydraulics etc. I don't know anything else yet. Any idea where to start $$ wise? Any hidden rot spots to watch for?

Yeah, check the frame very carefully for rust, it's a big problem on these 80's trucks.
They rust from the inside out, so you don't see it until it's bad.
Hard to put a value on sight un-seen and un-driven.

What the hell with the running lights? Somebody should tell your previous owner that 4Runners are not semi trucks.

Aside from the overboard running lights, it doesn't look too bad. How is the interior?

Those lights are *****in! Going by the front reciever, maybe it was somebody's motorhome pull behind? I'm hoping they are just reflectors....

No idea on the interior. My plan is to rhino line the floors and cargo area so if the interiors tattered, I'm ok w that.

So, it runs and drives great. The rust isn't too bad but I'm still unsure w the running lights. He recently por15'd the frame, replaced all steel brake lines, hoses, rear axle seals and rear brake components. It looks pretty clean underneath. The interior is decent, worn but ok. Carpet is gone but the seats have no tears, incline gauge is there. Sunroof is spidered but doesn't leak.

Downside, he wants no less than $4k for the truck. That's more than I wanted to spend I think. Thoughts on the price?

Tell him good luck and walk away. You can get a better truck for less.

The guy is too emotionally invested in the truck. He did offer to give me a solid front axle and most of the components if I end up w an ifs truck.

After driving the truck, ive decided a first gen is what im after. The search continues!
