Gonna adjust the 5100s, 285s or 265s?

As some know I just did the FJ spring+Bilstein 5100s suspension set up (.85 setting). I started out at 33.5 F and 35.5 R. Now I'm at 35.5 F and 37 R. I got some lift but it did not "level" it as much as I wanted, so I've decided to change my settings. About 3 weeks and 1k miles and the springs have not settled at all.

My question is: Do I go up 1" or 2"? If I go up 2" i'll add a rear spacer (1/2" probably) for 1" to the rear, which will be approx equivalent to a 3.5/2" lift. Either way I'll be level with only about a 1/2" rake instead of 1.5". I ask because if i go with 2" i'll be buying 285s instead of 265s this winter to replace my 265/70/17 Bridgestone Revo 2s (purchased used for $150 with 8/32 tread and 0 dry rot).

So are you guys running 285s happy with them? Go big or go home? What do ya think? The new tires will either be Revo 2s or BFG A/Ts, both have the same dimension with but the BFGs have a little bit deeper tread (16/32).

TIRE SPECS:
265/70/17- Diameter 31.7, width 10.7, tread 12/32
285/70/17- Diameter 32.8, width 11.5, tread 12/32

***Note: Using stock SR5 wheels with 1.25 spacers

Depends on your usage. I personally chose a smaller tire to keep my mpg up. I didn't buy the 4runner for gas mileage, but saving where I can definitely helps. I don't off road enough to need the extra clearance/traction from a taller/wider tire. It looks great, but isn't practical. Also, have you thought about the spare? I don't think you'll be able to carry a full size spare with the 285's (at least in the stock location). I could be wrong on that, but I know my 255/75 barely fits. It's a harder size to find, but a 275/70/17 (I think that's right) is in between those two and is a good compromise, if the tire you want comes in that size. One thing to note, the 2:1 ratio is only on the front. The rear is a 1:1 ratio with lift, so a 1" spacer provides 1" of lift.

I did see on tirerack.com about a 275/70/17 BFG A/T. Specs are 32.2" diameter, 11" width, 16/32 tread. Sounds like an even compromise. Maybe I can get away with just adding the 1" up front. Without 1.25 spacers I had no rubbing at all. After the spacers the rubbing is so minor I havent even got around to moving the liner or mud flap. Only at the right flex and steering wheel position and the radio off and the planets align I can barely hear rubbing. Of course brand new tires would be a whole different story.

I'm ok with the side profile of the truck but I'd like to have a little wider tire. After installing the 1.25 spacers it just looks too skinny from the front/back view.

The difference in height between the 275 and 285 is negligible but I want to say I've read where people are fitting a 275 in the spare location (if that's a big deal to you, personally I wanted a full size spare so I could rotate it in). Also, I believe your rubbing will be much worse with the BFG vs Revo 2's, nothing that can't be corrected though.

I'm trying to figure this out for myself too. I just came out of a 3rd Gen with 285/70/17 STTs and it was a great offroad machine IMO. I kind of hate to step "backwards" to a smaller tire, but it seems like that might be the most logical option with this 4th Gen. Decisions, decisions:redbrick:
