Good bye old girl, (1996 Toyota 4Runner)
Know that I always loved you, truly and caringly; and that you'll always hold a very special and particularly warm place in my memory and now broken heart. For years now; you've delivered me and my precious little loved ones to and from our destination safely and soundly; without any doubt along the way..... You had character and class, rarities in the world, and you weren't afraid to tow that big ass boat all the way from VT even when everyone else said you couldn't do it. I never had any doubt in you whatsoever and I'll miss our talks under your hood; on your rainy down days. You never complained when I hooked that trailer full of Green Machines to your bumper and asked you to drive to kingdom come and back. Most trucks would have been embarrassed to be towing such a visual spectacle through the streets, but not you..... No no, you knew the joy you were delivering into little peoples lives every time I loaded you up with Green Machines, and you helped raise countless dollars for noble causes, all to the sound of children's laughter. You were a central part of every aspect of our daily lives. Were it not for you; there would be no beach, no sledding down Tower Hill, there would be no destination and no journey at all....... You were more than just a truck,,,,, you were deliverance itself and the manifestation of freedom..... You always had Dave Brubeck, James Brown, Parliament Funkadelic and Nina Simone on the ready, not to mention the occasional Beastie Boys, and many a Boston comedian enjoyed your rear seat cup holders; as we traveled across the landscape together toward Foxwoods and Giggles Comedy Club and The Comedy Studio and various other comedy stops on the way to Hell, all in the direction of laughter. Over the years; you were fitted with everything from roof racks and a wireless roof top mounted missile launcher, to 2nd hand floor mats and a bumper sticker that read "Jesus saves and Neely scores off the rebound" (teary moment complete with running mascara)....... You brought an immeasurable joy and a sound of music into a world that will become a significantly darker place without you, but my memory of you will always serve to lighten my broken heart and my broken smile; in every fond memory of the time we spent together. Don Quixote had Rosinante, and he rode him across the landscape slaying giants in the name of goodness. The Monkey had you in his key ring doing the same.......... Farewell my trusty companion. May you one day be melted down and reformed into a fitting and appropriate monument of human bliss. I've loved you and I always will. Your (grieving) friend; and so much more.....Monkey
