So lets take 6000 NY'ers and ask them to just take a bike and start weaving in and out between people, buses, and lunatic cab drivers to get to where they need to go.

6000 extra bicycle riders probably wouldn't even make a dent in the number existing bicycle messengers doing the exact things you mentioned above. IMO the bicycle messengers are just as bad if not worse than the cab drivers

Yes, they can be "aggressive" and use interesting language but guess what bike messengers know how to do?....... thats right..... RIDE BIKES ....... and usually without hurting anyone too badly.

And guess where you can park your 4runner with all these new bike stands around??...... thats right...... New Jersey.

You don't hang around the city much do you? I've seen em literally run down pedestrians all too often, I'm talking about smack them straight to the ground because they can't stop fast enough and there's no room to swerve around.

It does not take a genius to ride a bike, but navigating a crowded city like it's the Tour de France, someone's bound to get hurt. If you ask me, newbie commuter cyclists would operate a bicycle in a safer manner.

I walk 40 blocks per day every day for too many years to count. I'd say I spend a bit of time on the street. I'm sure it happens but I've not seen but a few bumps and bruises. Never seen a devastating collision.

Point is, add non-city-savvy bike riders to the mix and it should get even more interesting...... but perhaps the decrease in summer-time Manhattan traffic, however negligible that may be, may help.

Overall, I'm hoping it works out well.

I guess my prediction is probably just a whole lot more congestion more so than injuries? But I am also known to give people way too much credit. I can definitely see 6000 extra new bike riders causing tons of traffic :lmao:
