Good Mechanic in SF East Bay

Hello All,

New to the forum. Have a '95 4Runner (with problematic A/T) and looking for recommendations for a mechanic to do transmission (and other) work and/or a (local) place to get a rebuilt tranny.

I am in Fremont but anywhere within 50 miles is cool.

Any heads up would be appreciated.

Shops in the Bay

I do most of my repair work myself, but when I don't have time or am facing a problem that takes more than basic repair skills I have a friend that works at a Toyota, Honda, Subaru specialist shop (he actually specalizes in plug-in hybrid upgrades) and there is also the lead mechanic/manager that really impresses me with his knowledge of most Japanese cars. Shop is Pats in Potrero hill San Francisco.

They both do side work at the shop after hours with the owners permission. If you want to have them work on the side I would have to call them first and then give you one of the techs personal number, or you could just go through the shop directly.

(if this is too close to and ad, please forgive me, I'm knew to the forum and I'm not trying to do that, I just prefer going to a shop with recomendation at least knowing they are honest and won't sell an unnecessary repair.)
