Good or Bad Deal on my Used 2003 4runner?

I was going to buy that one but backed out? Did the guy live in HB Beach and work for Toyota? 1 YR lease return as his wife got a new LX470? He originally was asking $31,500 and I was going to buy it for $29,300, but decided on getting a new Sport Edition V6. Got it for $30500 out the door.

Bingo, that's the one. Small 4runner world. She got a GX470 not an LX. Mine ended around $30,000 out the door because there was some late registration charges, since they weren't driving it anymore. At the risk of making me look stupid here, why did you back out?
2004, I assume you bought it new or demo? Did your Sport come with all/any of the mods listed in your signature? Does it have grey or black fendors? Where do you live? I live in Costa Mesa and am moving back to Fountain Valley at the end of the month.

I backed out for a couple reasons.
1) didn't need V8 and Nav (though I wished I had it)
2) Didn't like the 17K miles on 1 yr old car and the fact that the person knew that the car was not long term.
3) The scratch marks on the top lining of the ceiling from their dogs didn't sit right either.
4) When I looked at the car, I didn't like the touch up paint job on back driver side bumper corner and the fact that he had the front bumper replaced b/c the wife hit it on the garage. Plus when the hood was opened, the radiator fluid had overflow (made me wonder if it overheated).
Main reason, I was wavering back and forth, but really liked the idea of having a new car. Only thing I miss is the power seats. I got the aftermarket leather installed from dealer along with the rear spoiler and out the door was $30,500. Also the hood scoop was a nice feature along with the XREAS susp. Got it brand new with 4 miles and it has the color matched cladding, not the grey cladding like the 2003 models. I work in Buena Park and live in Hac Hts.

Too late, I bought my used 2003 4runner back in march of 2003.
Had 3 months of use and 3000 miles on it....some doctor's wife used it and they decided to trade it in for a sequoia... their loss, my gain!

I don't think you'll really have to worry about getting a 'bad' deal on a 4Runner considering the resale is so high. It sounds like you got a good deal considering that it's a Limited. That was one of my deciding factors on the 4Runner, I was looking at Edmunds.com and saw that the 4Runner was No. 2 on the list of top ten SUV's with the highest resale value, with No. 1 being the Land Cruiser!

sounds like you got a good deal. 17K per year is not uncommon nowadays what with the amount of driving people do.
Also, many people do damage their cars when they first buy them (unfamiliarity)

Thankyou to everyone for the feedback.
Warning! Somewhat long description of my buying experience to follow:
I was deciding between this 4runner and a second preowned one from a local Toyota dealer, which was ltd V8 4wd ~4k miles but no NAV and was Blue and was a couple thousand more. The reason I am mentioning it now is because when I drove it, it seemed to have a lot more power than any other 4runner I test drove. I looked at the engine and commented to the salesman that the top of the engine was black compared to the silver color I had seen on other 4runners. A month later, it just occured to me that maybe it had a supercharger
Oh well, I feel in love with the Black, NAV, and the price and there is no-way to tell if it really did have a supercharger. Plus, that salesman didn't deserve the sale. And saving the money on gas also helps a tiny bit. But then again, I will probably miss the 4wd from time-to-time.
I was completely across the board on what SUV to buy. I originally took the 4runner off my list because I sat in a 4runner at an autoshow and felt like the windsheild was very small and I am a big fan of visibility. After checking out what seemed like thousands of SUVs I went back to give the 4runner a second chance. Turns out that I needed to lower the seat and the windshield concern of mine was not as big of a deal as I thought. I still think it is a bit small, but it certainly was too small of a detail to discount the 4runner. I wish I hadn't looked at all those other SUVs and focused on researching the 4runner's options more.

I weighed all those factors into the decision as well and ended up on the other side. I might have gone the same direction as you, if I had realized that you could get the sport with the same color fenders. I didn't know because I hadn't found this wonderful forum yet and I certainly didn't get anything useful from any salesman. As far as the coolant, I think they overfilled it and when it expanded it overflowed the resevoir a little.

Luxury, I think you made a good choice. Those were just my concerns (overly anal on my part) as I have been burned in buying a used car before. If I could have bargained down to $27,500 I think it would have been mine instead of yours.
Either way, the best choice was picking the 4runner.

Hey Greenbowl , just wondering how much the katzkin leather seats were including install. Did you do it yourself or did the dealer do it for you? Also, does anyone know of a decent ( good negotiations on price...) dealer in NJ, NY state or PA. I would be perfectly willing to drive 75 miles for the right dealer!! This forum is awsome! I look forward to joining you all here (with a brand new 4Runner!)...another chick to add to the group!

I got mine installed when I bought the car. I just had to wait 2 days for the installer to come and swap out the seats. Also had the rear spoiler installed at the same time.
I think it was like $900. Definitely under $1000 and way under the dealer added accessory charge of $1300.
I live in Southern CA so I can't help you on finding a dealer. Sorry
