Good place for newbie to off-roading and camping near San Jose/Santa Cruz?

Hi, I'll be around the San Jose/Santa Cruz area this Fri/Sat and wanted to take the 4runner off-roading and camping.

Nothing serious, I don't have a lift or lockers. Just wanted to drive on some trails.

Anyone know of some good spots?

Hollister OHV park is less than an hour away from SJ. Trails there from easy to gnarly

I'll 2nd Hollister Hills. There's a full range of trails there and you can camp out.

Unfortunately there's not a ton near to the Bay Area. You can also try the area near Bridgeport on Hwy 395. Lots of camping and lots of trails that you should be able to handle. It is a bit further away though.

Ended up going to Mokelumne campgound in the eldorado NF, farther than i wanted but still a nice place...and free.

Found a fun trail but didn't go too far since I was by myself.
