Good riddance to the Magnaflow drone!!!

Well, I finally couldn't take the Magnaflow drone anymore. It was driving me nuts, and anyone who got in my car commented on it. Which drove me even more crazy!!!

I took the car over, along with my stock exhaust (which I kept, thankfully) to a reputable exhaust place down here in Southern Maryland. The guy was able to cut out the Magnaflow muffler and weld the stock one back in. The rest of the system looks like Magnaflow though and I still have the dual exit out the rear. Cost me a whopping $80 bucks. And let me tell you, when I picked it up and drove it home, it was sooo nice to not have the drone anymore. I didn't even realize how annoying it was until it was gone.

Also gone is the nice rumble when you really get on the exhaust, but it was a necessary sacrifice for my sanity. As an aside, my car had been completely dynamatted when I redid the audio system. That did absolutely nothing to help the drone.

So goodbye Magnaflow muffler... hello peace and quiet!!! It still *looks* good though!!

I am just curious on this. Did you leave the resonator in place after the muffler or did you remove it?

The resonator is gone. Literally, it is the magnaflow system with the old stock muffler welded back in. So no resonator.

It sounds more or less stock. Maybe just a hint louder (like all the others have said on here who removed their resonators), but not even really noticeable. And the drone is gone!

The drone is sexy. Then again I'm from the pre Fast and the Furious generation so I'm used to the drone when I'm driving.

To each his or her own though. It's a shame you spent so much on an aftermarket exhaust system when you could have had the same look for under a $100 before you bought the Magnaflow.

Oh I agree 100%... to each their own. I can see how some people would like it. I liked the sound when you got on the gas, just not the interior sound.

And yes, I could have had the look for a lot less than buying the system and then welding the old muffler back in. I'm not really happy about that - bad decision on my part. Such is life...

You now have a Magnaflow muffler that I'm sure someone will be interested in.

List it in Classifieds and see if you can recoup something.

was that drone there above 65 on the freeway? Cuz w/ my TRD exhaust anything above 65 it is completely silent (like easy conversation silent). Of course, around 1800 to 2100 there is a rumble but no drone. But, IICR, I don't remember a post here on T4R about anyone complaining about drone w/ the TRD exhaust.

Now, when I had that same exhaust on my older 4.0 V6, I couldn't hear myself think at any RPM range. I actually thought about getting rid of the exhaust but got rid of the truck instead. Even my GF commented on how it was night and day between the V6 and V8

The drone was most noticeable right around that 1800 - 2200 RPM range, which usually corresponded to about 65-70 MPH. At that speed, it was almost intolerable, in my opinion of course. Especially if you were sitting in the back - you couldn't hear very well back there at highway speeds if you were trying to listen to the people in front. That's how bad it was.
