Good times!

Just got home... 23 hour day and I'll be clocking out for the night very soon!

I will see how to go about making room in the firewall to clear the back of the engine. IF I can do that I'll pull the body lift. Immediate plans are some 37x12.5x16.5 military take off tires on some re-centered h1 wheels. This engine definitely has the power to turn 100+ pounds of rotating mass on each corner so those heavy wheels down low on the center of gravity will do it some good. I'll probably find a 4 cyl transfer case and use a transfer case e-brake. Other than that, I need to wheel the heck out of it and see what I need to do to it (or want to do to it). It is already a very capable rig with front and rear lockers and plenty of power.

Bob: Great meeting you today!! btw, don't be offended by me undoing some things you have done. I need to do a few things of my own to it. I'll put a few more dents in it for you though :D

All and all a fun day. Great to meet you Bob!

Since SVD now has 2 V8's, he can GIVE me the Tundra! That beast can haul A#@!

Best part about the day is that I am now totally undecided on the direction of my build. Too many ideas being tossed around.

I can't wait to see the mil spec 37's and h1 wheels... I love those things honestly.

and cool buy. I was surprised to see it is all. I expected a jeep.

just saying... I did get towed by a vortec 350 swapped (partially by me) wrangler when I had to put my engine. I would own that one lol.

Seriously though not to run off topic, I forgot he was selling it. I think I'd love a 350 in one. not mine though.

It was definitely a pleasure to finally meet you guys! Man, I wish we lived closer--I would've loved to do some regular wheeling with you while I still had my beast. Guess I'll just have to get another one next year, when things are going better. SVD, you go right ahead and change whatever you want--I can't wait to see what plans you have for her. Just don't go out and roll it on its head your first time out, okay? LOL!

Wow! Congrats I'm always late saw pics on FB and now see this way to keep it in the t4r fam! Congrats to Bob on selling it & SV buying it!

Now I just have to figure out how to mount 35's on my Civic...

Just kidding, of course (I'm sure 33's would be fine--okay, maybe not).

I definitely have a lot to learn about the chevy 350. There's a lot of stuff for them over the years! Basically, I have found a little information on using a Corvette accessory drive system for the front of the engine. That drive system is more compact than the one that is on it now. That will give me a couple extra inches of room from the front end of the engine to the radiator. That will allow me to move the engine forward 2 more inches. there is definitely plenty of room between the oil pan and all the goodies underneath the 4runner. I'll get it flexed out and take some measurements to see exactly how much wiggle room I have. The idea is to bring the engine forward and down 2 inches. That should give me enough room all around the engine and exhaust to remove the body lift. We'll see but I still have a lot to learn!

Are you absolutely sure of this space-savings? I did a lot of research trying to save space with other drive systems, and nothing really helped. It already has a Corvette-style short neck water pump, and the current pulley sits flush against the shaft mount--you can't move it backwards any. I checked serpentine systems, etc., but nothing seemed any closer to the block.

I'm not 100% sure. I have a lot of research and learning to do. There is also some room I think in the core support to more the radiator forward towards the grill. I'll have to so a little bit of cutting and adding some more support to the core maybe... At this point I'm trying to look at all my options and get some ideas.

I understand completely! I was looking into ANYTHING that might save some front-to-rear spacing. For the pulleys, though, it seemed like your choices were long-neck or short-neck, with little else to it. All the pulley systems just go off of that--otherwise, you have to find a different style of pump, and I wasn't going there.

That's basically what I'm seeing as far as the long/short neck on the water pump. I have found a few kits for a single serpentine belt conversion though which may save a little space since I would only be using one single belt as opposed to two "v" belts. These kits also allow for the a/c compressor to be mounted at the 10-11 o'clock position on the engine.

I'm trying to find out what drive system Nate used on his engine. It looks to be a very small profile and may give me the space that I'm looking for.

I think you're missing one important point, though--no matter how much you move the BELT back, the face of the water pump pulley is always in the same place. Serpentine or "V", the front of the shaft isn't any closer to the front of the block.
