Goodyear TripleTred or Bridgestone Dueler HL Alenza?

Hello all- I have a 2005 4Runner SE 4x4 and I currently have the crappy OEM Dunlop AT tires on them. I have done a lot of research on Tirerack.com and I keep coming back to either the GoodYear TripleTred tires or the Bridgestone Dueler HL Alenza...

Can anyone provide a recommendation?

Depends on what type of driving you do, what type of tire you're looking for and how much you want to spend. I'm a tire fanatic and have tried many different types (I'm on my 4th 4Runner) and I can give you my opinion.

Personally, I'd stay away from all Goodyear stuff. I've had bad experiences with dry rot on their products. I had Silent Armors and after one year had to have them replaced because they were badly dry-rotting. The dealer was very cool, told me I'd get them replaced for free. They had 3 sets of Silent Armors installed and on all 3 sets the road force was just too much and the tires wouldn't balance. I was then allowed to choose another set of tires for free (Michelin excluded, no big deal) and chose the Cross Contact LX. This was on my 2006 Sport.

I've had the Michelin Cross Terrain, Goodyear Fortera Silent Armor and Continental Cross Contact LX. A few months ago, I had the Dueler Alenza installed on the gf's FX35 (there were only like 2 tire choices for the wheel size on her ride).

Here's my take: The Michelins are overrated for my taste. Living in FL, I need much better wet traction. The cross terrains hydroplane rather easily and slip and slide here and there. Other than that, they are comfortable and very quiet.

Forget Goodyear, had many problems with dry rot and balancing.

The Cross Contacts were awesome - smooth, quiet, GREAT in rain and are apparently inexpensive compared to other tires. Awesome tire.

The Dueler Alenza rides nicely too but hard to compare apples to apples bc it's on a different vehicle, but no issues and good wet traction.

Tire Rack also gives very high marks to the Grabber HTS, and they are relatively inexpensive too.

ive had both good & bad tire models/design in the goodyear brand, the last were the GY SA, liked the way they ride , but i can atest to the dry rot/cracking on the outer edges, ive also had different models in the bridgestone & have never had a complaint about them. but get the tread design/model that suits the way you drive & what weather you see the most, lots of highway, deep snow or ice, rain, etc. out of the 2 you mentioned, id say the bridgestone, but ive also heard they are not all that good in deep snow or pouring rain. maybe checkout some of the others in the bridgestone line , like the DUELER APT 3, had em , not to be confused with the revos, loved em . served me well in all kinds weather & driving in my state (NJ) theyre very under rated in my opinion. good luck
