Goodyear Wrangler Authority A/T?

I was just curious if anyone has any experience with the Wrangler Authority--I just picked up a set at Wallyworld (Walmart) for my DD stock '95 Runner. They have a nice aggressive tread, similar to the Toyo MT design, not like most all terrain treads. I normally prefer BFG Mud T/As, but I wanted to go a bit cheaper for this rig (my other one gets the serious stuff), and it was hard to argue with $158/tire. I still trail-run this truck, and this tire looked like it could handle some rough terrain. Any first-hand experience out there?

Can't speak for the T4R's, but I've searched the internet about these, and they seem to be a pretty darn good tire.

Well, it doesn't appear anyone else here has tried these (thanks for the note though, Kung). If anyone might've seen them in Walmart and considered them, I can now say that they do work well in dirt, anyway. I took the Runner out to the local play area, which has numerous hillclimbs, and I was able to walk right up some fairly steep inclines without a slip, just using 4-LO and stock open diffs. Haven't had them in mud, but the tread design should do fairly well--it is very similar to other top-name MT's I've seen. The tires have a slight hum at speed on pavement, but nothing distracting. So far, they seem like good, solid tires...and at a bargain-bin price.

I have a set on my 99 ZR2 Blazer with about 5000 miles on them and they are awesome! Hardly showing any wear at all and they ride very good. They have done very well in rainy conditions as well. I will probably put a set on the T4R when it is due for new tires.

Thanks for the feedback, chimpy! I haven't put a lot of miles on mine yet, but I've had them in dirt, snow, mud, and rockcrawling, as well as plenty of asphalt, and I haven't been disappointed so far. I've climbed some pretty steep inclines on both dirt and snow, and they've worked very well, with little noticeable slippage. Especially for the price, they'd be hard to beat.

Gave these their best workout yet yesterday, making it up some fairly difficult climbs on snow-covered rock-strewn hills, plus a lot of deeper snow on steep inclines with fewer rocks. They have acquitted themselves very nicely--made it up everything they've been pointed at, plus ride quite well on highways.

Interesting. A little googling turned up some decidedly sub-par reviews, how are those wearing for you, Bob?

Sorry, but no further info for now--I sold the truck that had them on it. They would've looked a little bizarre on my taller rig, so they went in the sale. All I can say is they did great for me for the little time I had them--I just never got a chance to try them in heavy rain, but they worked extremely well in everything else (hwy, loose dirt, snow, mud, rocks, hillclimbs)...plus they look really good, too. I have no idea how they wear, but with what I know so far, I'd gladly buy another set.

Yea, everything I saw was either love or hate. no real middle ground, and it seemed about 50/50. For me, it'll ultimately come down to budget, when the time is right. But I d want the most aggressive a/t I can find for the money.

Interesting. Well, longevity seems around 35-40k, even with the people who hated them... Thanks for the info, Bob!! :hatsoff:

I was running a set on my runner. I loved them actually, wore nicely, road noise wasnt too bad, overall pretty good. Now that I got my Duratracs, my wife is running them on her ZJ. Been a good tire to us so far!

A decent tire. I have ~ 35,000 miles on them and I can anticipate getting another 10,000. I have used these as winter tires so they do not wear nearly as fast as they would if I used them year round. Frozen pavement does not wear a tire down as much as warm pavement. Great in mud and snow and I would think rock crawling would be decent. Probably gonna get another set when needed. Nice aggressive tread for the price.
