Got a 2004 V6

Hi All, just bought a 2004 4Runner V6 SR5 Black with 68k miles on it, any suggestions gurus

Suggestions? in terms of maintenance? mods?

just the maintenance stuff, things to watch out for etc, not really into mods i guess

I would change:
1) Engine Air Filter
2) Cabin Air Filter
3) Spark Plugs
And obviously engine oil and filter.
Do not forget to grease drive shaft (on how to, use "search" future at this forum).

this is the message dealer passed on after i bought

The vehicle had a safety inspection, a new state inspection
sticker, oil & filter change, new air filter, front end alignment,
and front brakes resurfaced

so i guess need to take care of spark plugs and grease drive shaft.

BTW can we tell if the spark plugs were changed by the prev owner at 60K miles

Do not forget that trere is a Cabin or A/C air filter. If dealer did not change it, it's likely to be dirty.

My is an 04 v6 4wd and it has been trouble free up to 72k so far. Every 30k you should change the spark plugs, although I usually wait until I notice a drop in mpg, which is around 45k. The air filter gets pretty dirty in a relatively short period of time and you may want to visually check the brakes. I haven't had to replace anything other then tires, filters and fluids since we bought it brand new. If you keep off the gas, you should average between 18 and 20 mpg in the city. I think I keep my tires inflated to about 35 psi. Good luck.

Mileage is not a good indicator of spark plug condition. You must change the plugs every 30k miles to maintain your emissions warranty. I suggest the NGK plugs listed in the spec in the back of the owners manual. I found them the cheapest at Napa believe it or not!?? If you don't know for sure, Change them!! I would also Change both differentials to Mobil 1 Fluids or any quality Synthetic, amsoil, royal purple ect..., Change all 4 headlight bulbs and 2 fog light bulbs to Silverstar bulbs. They are noticeably brighter and availible anywhere. Piaa makes great bulbs also but you usually have to order them. A relatively cheap mod is to tint the front 2 windows if that is legal where you live. Should cost less than $100.

Good luck with your 4Runner. Mine has almost 73000 trouble free miles.

Edit: I just looked at where you live so 35% tint on the fronts is legal in NC.

Fun4 - sent ya a pm.. Congrats on the new ride - did i miss the color?. Yet to have any reason other than service to get in in the shop. No flats or nothing. Very solid. Toyota did a good job with this one. It will serve you well.

cabin air filter

thanks guys for all the suggestions, just did a small DIY, cleaned the cabin air filter and went to AutoParts to buy a new one, was out of stock priced at 23$, went to walmart and found that they only sell engine air filter, any suggestion buys (23 seems expensive compared to 10$ for a engine air filter).

BTW my vehicle is preowned, today morning I removed the glovebox to pull the air filter and found that the pushrod which the manual says must be unscrewed from the glove box was freely hanging to the screw(i mean it was not attached at the other end and felt that there was something wrong with it)

any suggestions on this observation

That Sounds about right. It does seem expensive compared to the Engine air filter. I think you can get a toyota filter at the dealer for about $25. There was a forum member making them out of the 16 or $17 home Hvac filters you can get at any home depot or lowes.
