Got in a wreck and need some advice

I was on an unfamiliar road and hit a patch of ice on a curve which sent me into a ditch where i started to roll but was saved when i slid into a few trees. So while i didn't roll the truck, it sustained some major impact on the passenger side door and door frame, and to a lesser degree the front right fender and rear door. I guess i'm hoping for some people to chime in with opinions on what i should DO with this....thing... now. :cry2:

Will the repairs to at least have my door working again be more than the truck is worth? 96 5speed elocker with around 225k on it. Runs really nice. I hate to lose this truck but i don't have full coverage and if the repairs aren't worth it....

I included a pic of when it was in good shape because i'm sentimental.

Wrecking your rig is a crappy feeling, I have been there before. It is more than likely totaled. Do you have full coverage insurance? If so don't let the insurance company jack you around. Don't accept the first offer and justify a higher payout showing rarity and very few comparible vehicles. If you keep it and part it out I am interested in the fender flares and mud flaps.

have you gone into a body shop yet and gotten an estimate, it may just be a fender a door and straighten the rocker panel. That would not total the car. ask then if you pick up a used door, how much just to fix the rocker panel and install the door

If it is just the above I mentioned, and the insurance wants to total it, see if you can buy it back from them, some will let you do that. then just get the body shop to fix the rocker and pick up a used fender and door and put them on yourself, and if your lucky you might find the same colors

or you can buy it back from them and use the money to make it into a crawler and not worry about how good the dents are fixed

I know its not the same thing, but years ago I rolled a Volvo wagon, it was "totaled". I bought it back, replaced two side windows, replaced a door, it still had some dents in it, but drove it for a few years after that and my oldest learned to drive in it

If i were you i would check your local pick-n-pull or other parts pullers and try to find a new door (preferably the same color) and replace it. Hopefully they have one the same color but if you just want it working again and dont mind one door a different color then the rest it shouldn't be that hard to find one. Good luck

I was half asleep when I read the first post. I missed the part about you not having full coverage. In that case I would fix it.

The door and fender you can source from a junk yard pretty easily. The real issue the the damage to the rocker panel. Looks like a new door wouldn't close/open without getting that straightened out.

I missed that too......fix it....have a shop fix the rocker panel, get some used doors and fender and all is good

I work next to an import shop and one of the guys looked at quickly.

He was saying that he thought the rocker panel would need to be cut out and then have a new piece pinch welded in. I'm a little concerned about the doors posts and frame as far as lining up the new door. The impact was pretty hard and i have no idea what the extent of damage is. My alignment is all wonked out as well and the front right tire rubs in the wheel well at full crank. I appreciate the advice given here. It's given me some hope for not totaling the rig out.

The other heartbreaker here is that a 99 sport in black 5speed just came up in my area for a decent price. I would have traded mine up for the 99. Now i have no such trade value...

Sucks man, I have full coverage even though its old. I'd see about fixing it.
