Got Keyed!

Went out to the lake today and left my 4R at the boat ramp, when I came back in someone had keyed a cross into the Left Rear Quarterpanel. When I got home i Got out a buffer but the scratch went down through the clearcoat and into the paint. Anybody have any idea what it's gonna take to get this fixed(Price/Work)?

Yea, M16 for those punks that did it. Sorry to hear about that. A good shop could try and do just that quarter panel. Some shops will try to do the whole side of the vehicle.
 
depends on color matching to. cause if its white you would want to do the whole half of the car since that's hard to match. but if its black you could just do the quarter panel and get away with it. prob be a good 500-1000 for prep and paint and buff :lookout:

Its shadow mica, so it's kind of metallic gray
 
Metallic paint can be hard to match correctly. I had a White Pearl Explorer and the whole side had to be painted for a small repair to the rear quarter panel. It cost about $1200 8 years ago. My insurance picked up the tab.
Our X5 was keyed about 2 weeks after we bought it. I was able to buff it out with clearcoat polish but it sounds as if you need professional assistance. Have you tried any of the "Dent Doctor" type places. I know BMW dealers use them for quick touch-ups if it is something simple that does not require major bodywork.
 
I hear you but be careful of "cheapio" repairs. I took the EX to a bodyshop I knew and after a $200 disaster had to have it redone at another place. That's when I got the insurance involved as I had already tried the "quick fix" and it was a nightmare.
 
Someone keyed mine about a month ago. Front and rear passenger side doors...

Not too deep though. It's gotten a lot better through washing/waxing.

Toyota shop I take it to suggested their touch-up paint. Anyone try it?
 
Will do man, took it up there today and they told me to run back by Monday and the'll get me a quote

I was always under the impression that damage like this falls into your insurances comprehensive coverage. It does for me at least with American Family, and did with State Farm as well. If this is the case, it does not effect your insurance premiums at all.
 
I always keep this handy for times like these. Sorry to hear about your Runner man, that sucks.

light scrapes...

Hey all!

Just got an 07 4Runner this past weekend. I'm stoked - my wife really wanted a 4runner for a while so we're selling our Solara and Tacoma to buy it.

Anyway, the day I buy it I drove home and our dog jumped up on it and put a couple light scrapes on the side. From what I'm reading here it sounds like I should try cleaning it and then buffing it out with wax first. I'm also interested if anyone has had any experience with touch up paint.
 
Touch up paint is great for far away... once you get close to the car you can see it rather easily... at least that's been my experience.

Have you thought about puttin mittens on your pooch? If they have kitten mittens they gotta have some mutt mitts?
 
Damage like this is is typically falls under your comprehensive coverage, which doesn't affect your premiums. Worth a call to your insurance provider anyways. Just as long as your deductible is less than the $ to fix it!
