Got my DuraTracs mounted today! Man these things are NASTY lookin'! I got them E-Rated in 265/70/17, and they look leaps and bounds better then the stock Duelers. You could put these things on a Kia and they'd look badass. I tried to take some cell phone pics, but it was too dark out by the time they were mounted... so I'll take some tomorrow.
On the ride home I paid special attention to a few things:
Road Noise: They definitely have a low-pitch hum to them. It's not annoying or overbearing, but if the radio is off and the RPMs are low, you can definitely here it. Almost soothing. Doesn't bother me at all. It was EXTREMELY windy tonight, so I'll have a better sense of the noise once I drive it in calmer weather.
Feel: I noticed a very slight, distant rumble due to the larger knobs. It's pretty much what I expected to feel. Again, these are the most gnarly A/T tires I've ever seen. Didn't expect them to drive like the H/Ts. They take bumps a bit harder too, but that's all part of their charm.
Handling: Way too windy out to get an accurate sense of the handling... but felt fine to me. Will re-evaluate when calmer.
It's suposed to snow here this weekend, so it'll be a double-whammy for me as I get to test out my 4WD and my DuraTracs both for the first time. Freakin' Sweet!
When I arrived at Sears today, the guy workin' the counter greeted me with a, "Man, have you seen these tires yet?" They were the first set of DuraTracs that they'd seen/sold. He took me in the back and showed 'em to me, still laying in a stack. "I can't believe these are Goodyears!" Then, an hour and four tires later he brought me back in. Both he and the mechanic working on the truck were highly impressed with A: the 2010 4Runner (hadn't seen one yet) and B: the sick tires.
I'll post pics when I can get some good lighting. I'll keep you updated on their performance as well. A buddy and I are planning a 4x4 trip soon.
