Got my first scar... and didn't even get to earn it

Walked out of Target yesterday and went to get in my 4Runner and noticed some lazy ass decided that he didn't need to return his cart. Said cart had made a trip right down my driver side door. The scratch is about 3 feet long. Awesome. Fortunately it doesn't look too deep and Target uses those plastic carts.

Gonna hit up the car wash tomorrow and see if it'll buff out. If not I might have to take it somewhere to get it touched up.

Either way, it sucks.

I know the feeling except I dont think mine was an accident. Looks like ive got a nice key scratch from the front quater panelm down both doors and stopping on the gastank filler door. Deep, wont buff out, I tried. Even better is its on the driver side so I get to look at that beauty everytime I get in my truck. So weak.

I was at a shopping plaza last week, parked about 10 spaces in, wife and I get out and are by the back of the 4R. We hear a metal 'clash', look up, there is a shopping cart that 'jumped' off the sidewalk and was rolling right down the parking area right at my 4R. We just looked at each other and started to laugh, there was NO one around, but it was a windy day. We stood there and watched it pass about 2 feet away from the 4R and come to a stop. Needless to say I got back in and moved it a few spaces to were the lot inclined, just in case another possessed shopping cart had its eyes on my 4R~!

I try to park at the peak of the lot whenever possible and not at the low spots where the drainage grates are, since a lot of people are too lazy to put carts back in the return area or at least "hook" their carts to prevent runaways. I've seen carts take out a few taillights on windy days.

It sucks, no matter how careful you are, unless it's in your garage, the damage is inevitable once you're out and about.

Man, I tell ya, I've NEVER dented or scratched my own vehicle, yet I always seem to get scars.

My 4Runner TE was maybe a month old when I came out of the gym to find a door ding on my front passenger door. Some mom musta let her kid swing her car door open right into it. Dented and scratched, and on a Black TE, stands out like a sore thumb. Musta been a door corner that did it, because it looks as if someone took a ball-pin hammer to it.

Damn! But that's life.


On second thought, I did get some minor branch scratches on my Tacoma from some tight trail riding. But at least those scratches were earned.

I actually got my first scar this weekend. I was parked and ran in to pick up some food, but my girlfiriend stayed in the car. She was reclined back with her eyes closed because she had a horrible headache, but she felt the car vibrate a little. She looked out and there was an F-150 beside her. She didn't think much about it until his wife got out and helped him reposition the truck.

Well, she didn't say anything becuase she wasn't sure that anything had actually happened. When I came back out she told me to check the car and there it was. Fortunately I can buff the majority of it out and touch up the scratch. It was on the front bumper down low, so it's not that bad. It just amazes me though that people can hit someone's vehicle and never even think anything about it or even care.

Sorry to hear this. Reminds me of when I first got my 4Runner - everytime we would go to the stores I would get it in the ear "Why do we have to park so far away from the entrance?". Store car parks seem to be full of people who are mostly concerned about getting somewhere else to spend more of their money these days.
