So, I had posted that my PS was acting up, and going in and out... There would be varying degrees of "heaviness" on the wheel when turning, to the point of feeling like I had NO power steering whatsoever. Even after a flush, there wasn't a difference.
So, I finally took it to the stealership last Tuesday. Funny little side story with the diagnosis: I bought this from the "volvo" store, part of a very large "auto-group" which owns like 50 dealerships, the Toyota store being 2 doors down. This was last month. They sold me a 3rd party warranty. After I dropped the truck off on Tuesday, I got a call later that night that the problem was:
-Steering Shaft broken;
-Front axles damaged & torn axle boots.
However, the Toyota tech told me that these issues were ALREADY DOCUMENTED by the dealership when they took the vehicle in on trade, and instead of getting them fixed, they wholesale'd the car to the Volvo side. Because of that, they told me that the warranty would not cover it, because it was a pre-existing issue (that was not disclosed to me at the time of purchase).
Well, long story short, after some heated exchanges between me and the Volvo store, they agreed to repair everything at THEIR cost, and even paid for my oil change & loaner car !!!
They did the work at the Volvo store, so I'm waiting for a complete breakdown of the repair and costs so I can post them.
Just wanted to mention this, because I know that others have mentioned issues with their power steering, and until now, didn't have an answer as to what was wrong.
OBSERVATION:
I've only driven it about 35 miles back home from the dealership, which included about 10 miles of city, 20 miles of highway, and 5 miles of rural roads...
I'm averaging MUCH BETTER MPG's than before! The return trip yielded almost 21mpgs. I'm wondering if the damaged axles were causing some resistance, thus decreasing my efficiency.
However, this could also be attributed a bit to the oil change, and I "sea-foamed" my intake/fuel system prior to dropping it off at the dealership. What do you think?
