Got Slammed Into Today...pics

Replacing rear bumper w/ CBI for sure. Now, spend the rest on mods or fix the body?

So it snowed a tiny little bit last night and today and it proved to be too much for some. On my lunch break today I was going down the highway with a truck in front of me and came upon a fireman holding a stop sign in the road because there was an accident ahead. The truck and I came to a stop and about 20 seconds later a Dodge Ram pickup came around and WHAM! Got my rear bumper, taillight, pass. side rear 1/4 panel, and looks like maybe the hatch is not closing straight either. Then it bounced me off to the side (we were on snow/ice) and then she rear-ended the truck in front of me too!

At first I was a little pissed just because I love my runner so much and hate to see it get hurt, but I think it might end up being a pretty big check from her (the girl that ran into me) insurance company. I'm sure the rear 1/4 panel is an expensive part and doesn't look like it can be repaired (not that i'd be cool with a bondo job anyways). I'm actually thinking it may even be totalled because I have almost 200K on the odo so I'll have to show them receipts for the mods I've done. If I have to, I'll buy it back as a salvage and then it's going to become a true trail rig! Either way, I think I'll be getting that new CBI tire-carrier bumper I've been eyeballing...

MAN that sucks... dang that makes me feel ill to look at.

That's not a big deal. Just cut off the top and forget about it. :-)
The main thing is your alright though. Keep us updated on what happens.

If it gets totalled (which I doubt but you never know) this thing is going to have a soft top by this summer haha!! I'm glad no one was hurt either! Oh wait a minute, do I feel some whiplash coming on???

I'm kidding, I hate people who pull that crap. Someone lied to my insurance once and said he got hurt in an accident that he caused in the first place. My insurance saw it as my fault by 51%, paid him and his car off without even questioning his injuries and then my rates went up $1500 the next renewal! (He slammed on his brakes going 70 on the freeway and came to a complete stop for no reason, I couldn't change lanes and my car couldn't stop as fast as his so I had to hit him. Why did he stop in the first place?? That was never even asked.)

Yip, that's what I'm thinking! Maybe I'll even leave the dent in the 1/4 panel and use the $$ for a new exhaust or Budbuilt skids. Already planning to replace the bumper with the CBI (probably won't be much more than OEM).

Yeah I'll let you know what happens, her insurance just called me to let me know that they are trying to get a hold of her for her statement so they can decide fault. I'm glad I was stopped and she hit me from behind! I think it's going to make my truck even better in the long run, it's probably a blessing!
 
Yeah insurance fraud is know joke. My friends dad is a private investigator, you should see some of the things they catch the claiments doing!!! One guy claimed a back injury then they got film of him in the finals of a wrestling match! haha it was funny.

Well anyways I hope everything turns out good. Glad yah didnt get hurt man.
 
thnx sux dude but ya if i was in ur situation. i woul def get the rear bumper first and worry bout the 1/4 panel so the hatch closes all the way then the lights last...
 
That doesnt look bad at all. I wouldnt even replace that panel....just a little white spray paint and clear coat and it's good as new again.
 
ya i know that... sry i didnt specify. I meant like he should get a replacement for cheap and decide on the LED tails last since its not necessary
 
Sorry to hear about your fender bender man! Glad your ok though.

I would be VERY pissed if anyone did that to mine. Hell, mines got enough dents and scrapes for my liking. lol

The 1/4 panel is way too deep and smashed in under the light to be pulled out and bondoed and since I off road, bondo isn't going to be a viable repair option (it will crack with strong vibrations). The reason I'm even thinking it may be totaled is because both rear 1/4 panels and the entire roof all the way to the front windshield is all one piece (that's 50%+ of the body right there), the bumper is screwed, the tail light housing is out of shape, and the hatch is out of alignment. I'm guessing the cost to replace those parts and the labor might be more than what the truck blue books for. Although, I do have almost $4000 worth of mod receipts, new tires, etc.. so they can't ignore that if they total it.

Anyone wanna venture to guess what the repair bill will be assuming that these parts will need replacement?

I do alot of work with body shops. What they'll do if they cannot repair the panel, is they'll cut out the damaged area, and weld in a new chunk, and then sand/fill/sand/prime/paint...it's hard to believe this works but it does...luckily it's just around the taillight and didn't damage the liftgate at all...

it'll be somewhere around 1200-1600 with paint for the panel alone...the bumper and light are gonna be taken care of :cheers:


even if they total it, normally you get to keep the truck anyways...you get the full amount and a salvage title...as long as you plan on keeping it, you can still register it...someone may not want to buy it with a salvage title though...but you can fix the truck for around 1400 and keep the rest for some fun goodies!

Yeah they would most likely skin the quarter and put a new one on. I can't tell how much pulling it needs, but it doesn't sound like much. If it didn't damage interior panels then it may not add up to total it out. The salvage title is the big issue imo. I had my truck totaled but the title is clean, no salvage. If you have the title in your possession then it may stay clean. The lift gate can be realigned so overall it doesn't look too bad. There are some companies out there that will factor in age and total on that alone. Mine was a good example of that. Hope they don't total it though, just get a nice check and :peace::zoom:
 
Ouchy. Get some good stuff out of the deal, and it'll all work out for the better. Sometimes I wish someone would hit my rear bumper so I can get a new one that's not rusty. lol
 
Thank you LINY and 004Gunner for the good advice. I do have the title so I'm hoping it doesn't total out, instead I'm hoping that they just cut me a nice check and keep the title clear. I already got a basically free tail light courtesy of JohnsD90 (thanks bud) so at least I won't get a ticket.
