got some problems

While my runner is running really good although
I was snooping around the back of the engine and trying to get a good look at the injectors and leaks or whatever I could find
And I saw this all gunked up toward the front
It looks like oil mixed with coolant
I am leaking / burning coolant from somewhere and im sure it's leaking from the cylinder closest to the firewall on the driver side. I say that because I also was checking the spark plugs conditions and that plug from the cylinder I assume is leaking was shiny clean with red residue (damnit)

Although there is no usual head gasket symptoms ( smoke out the pipe ,rough idle , mixing oil and coolant )
No cel and car runs smooth with absolutely no over heating
I ordered a leak down tester today so I should have it by this weekend and let everybody know the outcome..

I will also keep this thread up dated as I diagnose this

I hate to have to tear in till this engine since it runs so smooth
But on the other hand I can't wait to tear into so I get to know this engine way better

But to start has anyone seen gunk like this ?

I have its mainly coolant that has dried and started to powder up, dexcool is really bad for this. That may be a leaking lower intake to cylinder head and there is a coolant port back there. I just finished putting an engine together so its fresh in my head. time for bed!

I just finished checking out your engine install good job..

If it is a leaking lower intake will that possibly cause coolant to leak into the cylinder giving the plug a polish?

Before you get too deep, clean it up and watch it. I fixed up a 4Runner that had a mess like that but it turned out it was just oil from the valve cover mixed with some spilled coolant. If you've ever removed the coolant hoses from the throttle body and let them drip on the engine, that's where it ends up.

I think he was stating the coolant was in the back of the head near the firewall. I don't think he would have spilled any there. There is a crossover inside the intake for the heater core also. So if the rear plug is wet from coolant it can be from a fail gasket leaking into the intake port.

No I wasn't confused, I recognized the injector in your photo. But just clean it up real nice with a cloth and watch it, don't go tearing down to your cylinder heads only to find there's no problem.

I just spend a couple hours with it
And cleaned it up as best as I could
The coolant is completely dried out so it's not coolant leaking there only oil. I can't really see where it's coming from but I'm assuming the valve cover on the passenger side by the front of the engine I just gotta drive it more and try to catch where it's seeping from
I'm going to by some gaskets and do that job after fathers day

Hard to say... you could swap plugs if you want and see if the next one turns red. I don't see how dye could survive in a combustion chamber.
