Got some unexpected statements from Dealership

Lordy, I hope they don't ruin the 4Runner in the same fashion as the Pathfinder! It is the last choice for people that actually use them for Off-Roading and Toyota would be dumb to lose that following. Kinda like when they eliminated the straight axle on the pick-up in 86!:barf:

LOL, sway bar is what I was getting at. If you lucky it is one of the bushings but people here reported steering rack issues on 5th gen (one post about 2010 4Runner issues).

Very interesting you mentioned the rack. I kinda have had issues with it being hard to get to turn or something like that. The wobble must be rearing its ugly head. Even though I have the warranty and the extended warranty, I can guarantee you that if the rack is an issue, the dealership will not admit it. I am going to try the bushings first. They are inexpensive and easy to install. And better then the OEM's. And like I said, I found the OEM's bushing kinda skewed in the mounts. Thanks for the heads up!

My Camry had a wobble for years that I could never figure out. Two sets of tires, a lot of balancing from different places never resolved it. It showed up around 65-75. So, one day, I needed new front rotors due to a rock that ruined them. They replaced those and bam, wobble gone! My rotors must have been warped on the HAT that was causing the wheels to wobble a little.

Just something to think about.

To add to this - 2018 model years are announced during the auto show circuits in the January February timeframe. Minor model changes can usually wait until the summertime like how the Trail -> TRD Off Road name change was announced at Ouray in July. The fact that we have not heard ANYTHING means that the 2018 is a 5th Gen.

...and images were circulating as early as April of that same year. Nothing has leaked thus far that I am aware of or has been posted anywhere on this board.

I've warped rotors in about that amount of mileage. WJ Grand Cherokees were notorious for warping. (among other things...) Fixed it with some heavy duty EBCs.

Sometimes it can be the caliper design, sometimes you get a bad rotor. But, anything is possible!

My wobble was "normal." and it vibrated on acceleration too.

Funny thing is, I had a WRX with literally all the same issues, exhibited in the same way - steering wobble at speed, vibration on acceleration.

From what I understand, a crummy/inconsistent steering pump can cause vibrations in the steering wheel.



I also get "warped rotors" easily on the 4runner. Doing the brake bedding procedure a few times clears it up for a while. And retorquing the lugnuts, for some reason.

Thanks for swaying me towards the rotors. I thought about it from the other member but since you said it, I am going to take a honest look at them. Still gonna chance those bushing though. Like I said, they are skewed in the mounts. Not really bad, but enough to make me notice.
