Gotta Start Somewhere...Else

Cold and snowy day, 04°F, but the Runner won't fit in the garage.

Just know that any license plate frame that covers any letters or registration tags on the plate, can be reasonable cause for an Officer to stop you. It could be a citable offense in your State. Then once stopped they can legally look for other violations.

Thanks for commenting, got it covered.

Here in Michigan, I'm surprised at what little regard the cops have for this kind of issue. I've seen plates deteriorated so bad, or dirty, you could barely read them. Then there's the smoke colored plastic shields, can't read the plate on most of those, either. (Not to mention windows tinted so dark that you cannot see in them at all.)

I got two different patterns for the frame. For the current one, the sticker is in the top right corner and is fully visible. For the new one, the direction is to put the sticker in the bottom right corner, have no idea why. The frame covers the lower third of the sticker. For both of the frames the wide graphic along the bottom covers an inscription on the plate. Not much of an infraction.

I do live in a city environment, but I don't have reason to be worried. Even if in an accident, doubt the issue would get attention.

Mileage

210 miles, 20 of which was around town, 68-72 mph, 19 mpg. About the same, or a tad less than my '04 Sport. Not bad, could be worse.

Installed and functioning, except for the map lights, still trying to figure out how to extract the OEM bulbs.

The LED courtesy/vanity LED's are pretty bright, probably didn't need to replace them.

Mileage

Just drove 350 miles all expressway, 68-72 mph, 21 mpg. Decent.

Also, just filled up the tank. The dash cruise range has always shown in the high 300's, with this fill up it indicates in the low 400's.

Prior owner installed this Hamilton HU...

First of all, beautiful blue 4R, hope you love that.

Do you like this radio set up? I've been looking for something for mine before I give it to my kid and this looks like a good option for a radio setup that comes with knobs.

Lucky kid. First, check out my post #17. I've seen many extolling the virtues of this HU product, especially on FB, I'm not one of them. Getting it to synch on start-up is hit or miss. Customer service said to make sure the iPhone is updated to current. Also, if you look at the website it does say that connectivity can be more of a problem with Verizon, my carrier. They are def right about that. Without my ProClip phone mount this would be an unworkable nightmare.

I do like the looks of integrating the vents. I'm not one who needs a larger screen, then needing to deal with blocked, or partially blocked vents.

The Carplay features are awesome. Problem is I can't get this unit to function very well. Spooling up the apps is slow, glitchy and annoying, especially music apps like TuneIn. Very slow, and I have to avoid tapping in rapid succession, otherwise I end up with two different stations going. Re-booting would fix this, but I don't know how to do that other than turning off the ignition, spose I could call and ask.

The touch screen on the left vertical margin, with stacked badges, often takes many tapping attempts for it to trigger. Once I get it into the apps screens, tapping the badges works much better. Funny thing is, I could try upgrading because I can't believe these issues are the case with others, or with other brands. Everyone, says the tech service is great. They are very helpful and friendly, just have to call them too d_mn much. Have no idea if I spent a grand on a new one it wold be appreciably better.

Finally, noone I'm on the phone with can hear me well, they describe the sound as a distant speaker phone issue, like I'm in a barrel. I don't know why the mic isn't working, and have to use my airpods to override it. I called about it, and it's trial and error, still in the error stage. I don't know which mic is supposed to be working, the OEM mic or one on the HU. Or maybe it is an installation issue.

There are other features/deficits, no CD player, no AM tuning (doesn't matter, not a well functioning radio tuner anyway), so I use TuneIn almost exclusively and it mostly works, which is neat bringing in stations from all over. But, when you add it up, sitting in the vehicle waiting to see if it synchs, then messing with the touch screen...ugh. If you do that on the fly it's dangerous and takes forever. I could be driving up to 10 minutes before I get a connection to an app, and listen to all the ads. Not what I'm used to.

I've seen internet comments to the effect that Hamilton is a refurb/reseller outfit, could be BS. Having said all of this, maybe I just don't know what I'm doing...?! Good luck.

using your phone with the stock radio and bluetooth connection is terrible in many 5th gen models so your phone issue may not be a head unit issue. if it's loud enough for me to hear the other person, the microphone picks up too much noise for them to hear me.

Mileage Update

Recently finished a 1400 mile round trip. The first leg was 350 miles, exclusively expressway driving, the math resulted in 21 mpg.
