GottabeTRD's Build Thread

Also... I know you have a different ballast... but if anyone has the morimoto 3Five Ballast... where did you mount them and how (also the ccfl inverter?)?

Thanks,
kev

I don't have halo's but i have the LED strip that i run off of the parking light.

My parking lights are all LED too. but as for the ballasts, i just used sticky tape to mount them. Mine are the huge Apexicones one though, I cant imagine having trouble finding a place to mount the 3Five's There are some pics of where i mounted them in my projector build thread i think its on page 2.

These little mods... I cant wait to start doing some real stuff but here is another little one i did this weekend.

i bought these from pep boys

They not really this bright (as they show) i had to tint the front one slightly so i could get rid of some of the glare, but its pretty cool, still trying to get used to it.

Nice!

I have had that mod in mind for a long time. How is the light output at night? Does it just barely light the cupholders or does it cast a nice low red glow on the interior? I already have that amber accent lighting on the FMU, so I don't want any more lights that do that.

You have been busy with the lighting mods lately, not much more accent lighting you can add..

yeah its something easy and cheap and i think I'm like most of the guys here; when i work on my truck it clears my head lol. But yeah i don't plan on any more lights on the inside. Its getting to the point where wires are a little numerous, and anything more is gonna get a little rice

The lights don't shoot the light up on the inside at all, It seems to stay in the cup holder. I was playing around with the position of the LED and if you put them sideways to the hole you get a very dim but even light around the cup holders. I just didn't like the look of it. I tried sticking different filters in front of the bulb too to see if that did anything and it wasn't really noticeable. If i could find some little plexiglass rings that would fit in there, it would make a nice little ring.

but here is another night shot

Almost positive I saw your 4runner driving north on I-15 today. Does your wife/girlfriend/spoiled sister ever drive this?

Man that is a nice addition to your interior lighting, and very useful, too! Sometimes finding the cup holders while driving at night holding a hot cup of coffee isn't easy.:biggrin2:

I can only wish my interior is half as decorated as yours...All the little things that makes the difference....Love everything about it, dude!

oh dear... I have had it parked on campus all day, so unless someone stole it, it wasn't mine. It better still be there lol!

Thanks man i appreciate that! But yeah I'm always looking for them too, I've had a couple close spills in the dark.

Nice dude, ya ive been wanting to do that cup holder mod but ive been too lazy and didnt want to have to solder resisters and wat not but since u found an easy solution i may have to go pick that up so i can finally do it.

Install looks great and any hints to make install a bit easier or any benefits?

thanks man. Yeah it's super easy to do, I just tapped into the light in the shifter. The LED's I got, fit snug in the holes so they wont go anywhere. It's nice to not have a lost cup holder anymore. You don't need resistors or anything either. Just don't run 19 volts to them and you will be fine

I wish i could find some circular plexiglass or something like that to put in front of the bulbs so i can get a nice ring effect, but I haven't thought hard enough yet of how i can get that effect.

let me know if you have any more questions

I've been planning on doing the cupholders LEDs. Have you seen the DIY halos for headlights when they use curtain rods? I've been thinking of doing something like that to create a ring around the cupholder.

u could prob just take a piece of lexan or something similar at lowes and cut it to wat size u want... so im assuming u mean make a clear coaster so it even lights up the whole circular bottom area? that would look pretty sweet

Looks killer! Love all the nice lighting touches you have!
thanks man! I just need to get a new head unit to make it all tie in.

I think i have seen that before, I've got a list of stuff i need from Home Depot, I'm not sure they make rings big enough for the cup holder but i could be wrong. If they do exist it might be cool to cut a section out of the cup holder and mold it into it?

Is Lexan that stuff that comes in a sheet? but yeah I dont know if you have ever seen the newer Chevy's and Fords. Some of them come with different kinds of courtesy lighting. the Ford Fusion is one i remember It looks like this

I think i can get something close to that, but its gonna take a lot of plastic sacrifice lol. but IMO it will look much cleaner.
