Graciously asking 4 help w/ headlight assembly removal

Hello everyone,

Long time lurker, but have never posted before. I have made an effort to look at lots of previous threads before I created this one, but none have answered my specific question.

I have a 2005 sport and my headlights are cracked and faded. I ordered two new assemblies. I have already removed the top black shroud, the screws from the top of the headlights, and the bottom bolt by peeling back the wheel well cover. However, I am now stuck at the screw on the BOTTOM INSIDE Corner portion of the headlight (NOT the one that requires reaching under the fender). There is a black plastic strip attached to the front bumper and it is blocking my access to the screw; this screw is attached to the small metal strip that borders the bottom of the headlight on the outer portion of the car.

This is probably a really simple issue, but for whatever reason I cannot see a place to detach this black plastic strip from the bumper so that I can get to this last screw.

All help is truly appreciated. My goal was to get this done tonight. TYIA!

You've got to muscle up on that black plastic trim piece.....I think I had to get the 2 outer-most clips dislodged before I had enough room to get a socket in there......I don't think pulled the whole trim piece off(center was still clipped in) Be careful, look and see how it clips in below, you just gotta work and grunt a little but they will come out.

Yeah, guess I was just hesitant to break it because I couldn't see exactly how it was clipped in. I'll give it a shot. Thanks

you might be able to pinch the connector thingys with your fingers or pliers.
They are a metal/plastic clip if I remember correctly.....kind of square shaped vs round.

Just leave it attached and wiggle the assembly out with the metal trim piece still attached. You have to be careful you don't break the clip that attaches to the fender on the other side but it slides right out.
