A little more info would help. What did you do? What didn't work? What write up did you use?
I don't remember off hand what write up i used but im sure i can find it. I unplugged the white plug from the 4wd computer and found the gray wire. spliced a 12" wire into the gray wire coming out of the white plug and ground that to a screw on the frame. when i started my runner it automatically went into 4wd and won't turn off until the wire is unground. im pretty sure i just used the wrong wire but there are 19 wires and im not sure how to find the correct one.

Gray wire mod is a very misleading name. The wire on the Tacomas is gray, hence the name but on the 4Runner the wire is actually red with a blue stripe.

They are overrated.... Thats actually not true I was just trying to make you feel better. :bigok:
I have two 4wd control computers. a bigger silver with a big obvious sticker reading 4WD CONTROL and smaller black that has the words 4wd control molded onto in very small letters. needless to say i found the big silver one first found a gray wire and ground it. i know the wire can be red/blue for 4runners but couldn't find one so used the gray. well that didn't work so i went poking around and found the smaller black one unplugged found the red/blue wire and works perfect!

Yeah I was the same way. I had the wire and everything just sitting in the garage for a long time before I finally just went out there and did it. The only problem I was running into is a kept thinking I was doing it wrong because I was backing out of the garage and driving back in and it still wouldn't lock.
Ended up having to drive a bit further than I thought and also turning the wheels helped a bit. Overall it was very easy to do.
