Grayson's 1988 4runner

Got the amp mounted. Not a lot of choices in a 1st gen.




Used some 3/4 plywood. Put tnuts on the back and metal spacers to bolt it up tight.

Got the front carpet in and the subwoofers running. Have to install the plywood in the back for the 6 x 8 infinities today. Listened to it with the rears just wired and laying in the back. Really clear sound with punch. My boxes are unported. Used a soup can for the cutout on the sub connector.

It looks great. I love to see interior work. We seem to be running parallel as far as where our 4Runners are. By getting the new stereo in yours you are pulling ahead of me. We are doing a ton of remodeling on the house so no 4Runner work. I have new old SR5 seats to install and will definitely copy your painting of the springs. Good stuff.

Thanks Nervo. Been driving it some. I really like this rig. The window run rear support seems to be a faliure item in the first gens. I installed a new window run in the passenger side. The pictured piece in the driver and the wrecked one was broken the same way. Maybe when the run wears and splits the window jams down on the tip and breaks it. Neighbor couple doors up sharpens sawmill blades and such and he brazed it back up for me. Now I can install the drivers run and toss the cardboard to eliminate rattling.



Passenger side is OEM. The wrecked one is the first one I found so it got the treatment.

Got the SR5 fronts in and the rears that were in the DLX. Grayson and I went for a cruise this evening. Took in the river from the bridge. Gotta love the south in the fall!

It looks good. Does your son listen to mostly classic rock? Mine does. He thinks I'm lying when I say, "this was a hit when I was in 7th grade."

What's the purpose of a covered bridge in GA? I thought they were to prevent ice on the bridge. I agree, the south is great in fall. It's 85 degrees today though.

I still haven't put in the stereo and cup holder. The plumbers hanging iron is a great idea if I get in there and there's no factory hanging brackets. It's something I actually have on hand so it's free.

I think the factory or crutchfield radio brackets will screw right into the cup holder. I am always in a do it now! mode so we did it now. I want to do me a runner and I am going to mount the cup holder on top and remote control radio under. That should give more clearance for the shifter since the shifter will be further away higher up. Not sure on the bridges but I was thinking it was shelter in a storm in horse and buggy days. I can get a pic of the brackets up. Planning on heading to Destin Thursday to my daughter/5 hours one way.

Rolled into Destin

Made the five hour drive down, no problem. 22 Reliable (borrowed from Radrunner) performed flawlessly and delivered 21.15 MPG.

Came back through rural Alabama taking as many county roads as possible. Stopped in for a photo op at an abandoned VFW. Great building, would make an incredible shop :lookout::cheers: .
