Nice build......subcribed and looking to do the same rear hatch mod. Thanks for sharing.

Regards.........8sm

Did you actually buy those JAOS mud flaps? We ripped on those pretty hard on another thread. I sure hope you are getting an 80% discount on all your JAOS gear.

No worries, looking forward to it myself. Didn't do the backup mirror just cause that's a bit tougher but will keep you posted! Thanks for subscribing; will definitely keep you posted!

Lol, yeh I bought them a long time ago. Please don't judge me! JAOS used to be very big of course but the flaps were/are lacking. I had two sets for my 98 and ripped both sets when I had them with just routine offroading. I just stick to lighting with them now. They were very big in Japan and even the States but I imagine given their price point and competition they've kind of seen themselves out of the market. Now I just go with used JAOS gear as opposed to new (except for lights though). I mean even the carrier I just purchased I got at a fraction of the price of a used JAOS Surf/4Runner one.

I'm not too familiar with the term "JDM", I see it all the time on Civic videos. Is everything JDM Japanese made? Thanks for the info, and sorry for the stupidity lol. Subscribed.

Japanese Domestic Market = JDM

Many vehicles come with different trim/features depending on the market they are sold in, despite the vehicle being mechanically the same.

So the parts for the Japanese version of vehicles sold here? And sorry for taking up space on your thread here.

You got it. :bigok:

The bullbar, and fender mirror in my avatar are examples of parts that came on the Hilux Surf, but not on the 4runner, despite them being the same platform.

That rear hatch is so hideous and it's black just like my 4runner. I think you should Just sell it to me and let me deal with the ugly:D

My editing skills suck, meant to have that first post...IDK anymore...

Well folks my bags are packed and I'm headed home within 24 hours. First a big thanks to everyone who purchased from me or inquired about parts. All my crap is shipped and should arrive towards the end of next month. The truck is running again and I'm seriously stoked! I am taking home the rearview LED covers and will work to get them on the truck asap. I will do a few things around the engine bay as well and after that I plan to install these bad boys:

See seats above please:wave:

Until I figure this out

Well, guess it's safe to say that this is my unofficial re/build thread. Glad to be back and driving this bad boy again. Little bit of jet lag to get over but love being behind the wheel again. On the repair side:

Replaced engine (utilized a 98 engine)
Plugs (NGK)
Wires (NGKs from Summit)
tie rods and ball joints replaced
All fluids flushed and replaced
Hawker Odyssey battery

I've since washed it and replaced corroded terminals. I expect all of my Japan parts to arrive at the end of the month. Glad to be getting back to this re/build. :frog:

Up next I plan to do the Tundra brakes before getting into mods and after that I'll work on installing my Corvette seats. Cheers!

Installed my LED tails and changed the fuel filter. I finally got all of my crap past customs but couldn't get my mechanic to give me a hand with the tailgate so I'll take care of it when I'm back in Atlanta. Went ahead and also put in the fridge plus the Surf cargo mat. Will add more pics shortly. Smoked leds are lovely. My camera doesn't do them justice but will do better going foward. Cheers!

Mat, fridge, old lights

Thought that I'd already put this up but apparently not. Here are pics of the mat and fridge. Due to my bumper It'll take a little longer to get the Surf sports grill installed but I plan to knock it out next week at a local shop. Led tails are good stuff; I plan to upgrade my reverse and turn signals to leds also so I'll be ordering in a bit. One of my grounds was loose so had to tear everything out and tighten it.

Picture quality sucks but you get the idea.

Upcoming I plan to do more maintenance:
Tire balance and rotation
Brake flush
WASH

Upcoming for Weekend of 4/5 I plan to:
Install mirror covers (pictured)
Install grill
Install tailgate
Look into getting the rollbar welded on as a bumper.

Need to purchase skid plates and a rear cargo tarp so I'll be on ebay and the local junkyards.

Cheers!
