Greetings all and Happy Holidays! Just got a '16 Trail. I searched for a while as I wanted a base model (don't like sunroofs and leather) and found one in gray which is what I wanted.

Not to spark a lift/no lift debate, but I've already ordered a Toytec Boss kit, Light Racing UCA's, Method NV 305 wheels and 285 BFG A/T's. A set of RCI skids are next. As I live in CO, I don't want to find my weak points on a mountain.

I'm not new to car forums in anyway, so I look forward to learning and properly contributing to the forum. That said I'm really only active currently on a Bronco forum for my '78.

Please note that my join date is so misleading. I joined back when we got my wife an '07 2wd when we were living in Houston. Didn't have that but maybe a year. I didn't really need the forum as I wasn't modifying the '07 and I was a service writer for a Lexus dealer at the time, so I had my 4 person tech team to wrench on it for me. Great vehicle though.

Again, I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas (or Happy Chanukah) and Happy New Year!

EDIT: and if your in the Denver area and you read this, PM me as I'd love to join for some wheeling (yes, snow wheeling or summer time). I got my 4R to actually use it. And yes, I see there's a Mountain chapter thread.

Also, Mods could you please reset my join date? 1 post in 2011 shouldn't mean I joined in 2011, right?? I tried setting up a new account but don't have another email I want to use. Thank you.

Greetings...from Arvada. You might have caught a lot of folks doing holiday stuff which could explain the delay in replys. I know I've been tied up and without any T4R projects I'm not "lurking" as much.

Enjoy the forum and all the help most members provide.

Hello back from Denver. Xterra Pro-4x owner soon to be TEP owner. I test drove one at a Denver Yota dealer and they told me it had the TRD Pro lift on it. Turned out it was the basic 3" toytec lift. That's not what I want. Im looking at the BOSS 3" lift for mine. Let me know how you like it and dislikes if any. Used to live in Wyoming and had my 98 Wrangler to play with out there. Sold it for my new back yard. Im down for wheeling when ever I get the time.

Very cool. I'll let you know. Everything will be installed by sometime the week after next. I'll definitely post up my thoughts. The stock suspension seems ok for what it is. Obviously tons of engineering went in to the stock suspension and all, but I'm looking forward to my Boss kit. The front end dives with the slightest application of the brakes. Granted, I'm coming from my 2016 VW GTI with the Performance pkg.

Yes. I initially didn't want it, but after talking with several Toyota off road shops, and realizing (without ordering a 4R from scratch) it was seemingly an act of Congress to get it removed at port, so I said whatever and did it.

My thoughts were that the Boss kit would be stiff enough to not notice the lack of having the KDSS, but now I have it, so... I just don't like non serviceable items like that. I was a service writer at a couple of Lexus dealers for a few years, if it's the same basic system that came on the GX's, then I'll probably just remove the system when/if it starts leaking and not doing its job.
 
Congrats on the new 4Runner!

I an thinking about getting a new SUV and I am starting my research. What do you think of the rear leg room? We just had a 2 month old baby and now that is important for us. I want to have enough room for the car seat etc.... Any feedback would be appreciated!

Ironic you ask. So the major push for the 4R was the upgrade in rear seat room. I have a 2016 VW GTI 4dr as well. I love the thing, but my wife and I have baby #2 arriving at the beginning of April. Our 3yr old (well, 3 this month), has a convertible seat which is obviously forward facing currently. It's tight in the GTI if I have a 6' passenger and him in his seat. Like , tuck you legs up little buddy. Our infant carrier/seat base car seat didn't come close to fitting, thus the 4R.

The best part is that, like my wife's 2015 Outback, the rear seat backs adjust and recline. This helps TREMENDOUSLY when installing the rear facing infant car seat/carrier. For reference, our infant carrier is a Summer Prodigy (3 yrs old now) and my 3 yr old has a Chicco NextFit CX (about 2yrs old). Google the dimensions but I took both to the dealer and test fit for gen during my last visit before purchase. I got the driver seat more than comfortable and the infant carrier fit very well with the rear seat back slightly reclined. So plenty of room.

Thank you! I was looking at 4Runners last night again online and Toyota has some rent a car program. So I am going to see if I could rent a 4Runner for a night and see if it will work.

We went to the dealer last night and looked at one for about 5 minutes. We were not able to try out the car seat but the rear space seemed good....
 
Can someone comment if they overall ride height is higher for a TRD Pro vs a SR5 or a limited?

Looking at the dimensions online it says .5'' but I want to double check seeing how the rear leg room is way off....

If I'm not mistaken, the Pro is about 1" higher in the front.

It's really great. Turning radius is taking a bit to get used to, not that great. Otherwise I love that it's a modern vehicle with overall simplicity and old school underpinnings.

It snowed today so I used 4wd. I enjoyed shifting a lever to engage/disengage 4H and 2H (just like my Bronco).

A mod I wasn't planning on, but will be performing, is installing some sound insulation in the doors. They are slightly hollow sounding when they shut. I used Hushmat in my Bronco I mentioned (a 1978) and it worked really well.
