Toyo Tires Suck!

Team, please bear with me as I have a rant. Yes, I did search the forum and didn’t find a fitting thread so I figured I’d start my own. I just had to replace my 4.5 year old Toyo AT IIIS (285s) for cracking. I had maybe 25k miles on them. Rewind to 4.5 years ago, I replaced my Toyo AT IIs for the same dry rot, cracking. Toyo swore they got the cracking problem solved with the new AT IIIs. They, in fact, did not. And they made their warranty process so freaking difficult I just gave up and went with Falkens. Toyo will never see another dime from me and I hope you consider this thread when selecting your next tire.

What’s the date code on those tires?

They’ve been replaced by the new Falkens so I can’t check, but I want to say Japan, maybe.

I’m just so pissed as both the IIs and IIIs dry rotted on me in such a short amount of time.

Hate to tell you. The Falken wildpeaks I put on 2.5 years ago also have cracks in the sipes. Also at 25 thousand miles....

Not sure it's really anything to worry about.

Tires aren't made like they used to. I would say four years without cracking is quite good. And honestly rubber hardens after three years or so, and they just won't perform like they did when new no matter how much tread is left. These are very tightly engineered consumables and you get what you pay for.

My Jeep Wrangler (20 years old but very low miles) is running on Toyo Open Country Mud Terrain tires that are also 20 years old. The Toyos are in great shape - no cracking anywhere.

After 10 years, you are taking great risk. They may look fine, but they will disintegrate from within.
