It snowed today so I used 4wd. I enjoyed shifting a lever to engage/disengage 4H and 2H (just like my Bronco).

A mod I wasn't planning on, but will be performing, is installing some sound insulation in the doors. They are slightly hollow sounding when they shut. I used Hushmat in my Bronco I mentioned (a 1978) and it worked really well.

That's awesome. I'm really looking forward to purchasing a Trail (or Off Road as the 2017 will be know) this year. I know what you mean about the doors from the test drives I did, but not sure yet if it will bother me.

I too have a GTI mk7, and absolutely love to drive the car. With a kid on the way I decided it's time for an adventure vehicle, and one that can fit a car seat or two. Glad to hear that's not an issue with the 4Runner.

I read your comment on the KDSS and I'm conflicted whether I should order the car with or without...more research I guess. I do plan on doing a 2'' lift, and don't want to have problems with the system.

The Mk7 really is an amazing vehicle for the price point. That said, and since your are coming out of a Mk7, I'd probably opt for the KDSS to not make it so SUV like in the bends. 200 miles in, I'm happy I did the KDSS. You really don't even need to compare non-KDSS vs KDSS if you're familiar with vehicle dynamics and how an SUV should handle. If so, you can tell right away that it should be rolling more. Toytec and my installer Toy Crawlers put my concerns to rest about it.
