Hello everyone, I'm looking to pick up a 3rd gen 4runner soon hopefully. I'm in the process of selling my BMW which should secure me enough funds to buy and hopefully build out a fun toy. I've been doing my research and have read the buyers guides here and on yotatech.
My current plan is to pick up a 3rd gen 4wd (pref automatic... I know!) for around $3-5k. They are abundant in my area so that shouldn't be an issue. I have plans in 2017 to take about 4 weeks off work sporadically to participate in several kayak fishing tournaments all over the state. Between now and then I'm hoping to do the following; Buy the vehicle, put on a 3" suspension lift, get a second set of wheels with off road tires, build a platform in the back for sleeping on, installing some armor and a beefier front bumper with a winch. This won't be a DD for me and I have my own shop/tools as well as access to a lift if needed. I think my budget will be between $6k and $8k. Does that all sound doable within that budget?
When travelling between tournaments I will be towing a trailer weighing between 600 and 1000 lbs. I plan to keep a complete second set of on-road wheels for those trips and have a set of 5 specifically for off-roading.
