Tried the grey wire mod today and didn't have any luck.

When I connect one side of the grey wire to a ground the locker works as usual and so I tried the other side and it won't engage at all. Don't know what to do I only saw one grey wire under there. Now I've got it disconnected and am without a locker.

Any suggestions I need help quick, or any one in the houston, tx
area that can take a look?

I bought a 2000 4runner from a guy who is a toyota tech. He had already done a mod to it where you could use the factory rear locker in any gear. I think this is what you are referring to as the "grey wire mod?? I have no idea at all what was done, or where the wires are, but if you tell me where to look, I can take a picture, or tell you how where my wires have been moved to.

No one else has responded, but that's what I can do for you...

The mod is done under the driver side kick panel by your left foot.

You must first remove the plastic on the rocker panel and then the kick panel. There are two black boxes under there one of them controls the 4wd with the grey wire coming out of it. This is the wire that people are cutting to operate the locker in any gear.

Thanks for the help, but you don't need to go to all that trouble for me. I think the guys on toyotech have steered me in the right direction. And I figured out this morning that the wrong wire that I cut controls the windsheild wipers....OOPS, good thing it was just dew and it wasn't a rainy day.

I'll splice it back together this weekend and cut the right one.
If you want to see the thread and info on toyotech its posted in the 3rd gen. taco and T4R forum under the same heading.
I use the same screenname on all the forums
