Grille enhancement mod

So here's my first section with the aluminum mesh that I linked above from Amazon. This is the 3mm x 6mm so it's relatively small but so is the wire so I can't see it restricting airflow in any significant way.

I took the top portion out to make it a little easier to do, I'm not sure if the bottom grille pops out or not but I'm doing the top first anyway.

Can you elaborate on how you attached it, please?

All done, it's attached with small black zip ties, a lot of them...

Definitely more work than I thought it would be, removing the top portion made a huge difference in how hard it was to do the bottom. I just made a cardboard template of the top and put down some painters tape on the mesh and cut it out with tin snips. The bottom was pretty much a rectangle 37.5" x 7" I think. A little tough maneuvering into the right position but once it was in there I just started placing zip ties from the middle and bottom working out towards the ends.

Here's the link;

Nice. On the list if I end up keeping mine. Did a similar mod to my old Disco II. More of a full grille insert though. Hot climate mod to remove the middle slats for better air flow.
Thx.

I did mine last night, I used about 50 zip ties and it took about 3 hours start to finish.

I used the plastic mesh roll from amazon mentioned in previous posts.

I’ll prob do it over again with the aluminum mesh DaftJungle linked on page 3. The holes seem too large for any real bug protection.

For the time being i want to get some life out of my three hour and 9 dollar investment so it’ll stay on for the winter

So does the mesh not rust? I live in FL near the coast, so the humidity is pretty darn high. Curious how these old up

Mine have been on all winter. They use melting compounds that wreak havoc on vehicles. No signs of rust yet. When they get real rusty I'll go buy some new ones and reinstall.
